Where Can Americans Travel Now? [Updated Map]

There is a long list of countries that are either open or reopening very soon to the United States. There are still many destinations American travelers coming from the US can choose from.

Below is a list of countries that Americans can travel* to right now and everything you need to know if you’re thinking about traveling there.

In almost all cases, the current travel restrictions in place do NOT refer to the citizenship of the traveler. Rather it refers to the country from which the traveler is coming.

The US is currently considered High Risk, so anyone traveling from the United States, regardless of whether they hold a US passport or not, will be subject to the restrictions in place. There are exceptions if you are a resident of the country you're traveling to (or a diplomat, humanitarian worker, student etc).

The U.S. State Department has lifted its advisory on avoiding international travel

In the fall of 2020 the U.S. State Department lifted the global health advisory and are now going back to the previous system of travel advice for each individual country. This comes as the coronavirus situations begin to vary drastically on a country-by-country basis.

The Department is still advising against traveling to some countries who continue to see high numbers in coronavirus cases. This includes countries rated a level 4, “do not travel”, like Brazil, India and Russia. Read more
