Description |
A continent in its own right, Australia’s landscapes range from tropical rainforests to the red deserts of the Outback via vineyards, surf beaches and cosmopolitan cities. Thanks to an efficient network of internal flights, you can experience many of these places within the same trip. |
Day 1 : International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Perth.
Day 2 : International outbound flight
On-board your international outbound flight to Perth.
Day 3 : Perth
On arrival in Perth you will be transferred by private vehicle to your downtown accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to relax.
Day 4 : Perth
Take a ferry trip across to Rottnest Island before hiring a bicycle to explore. When Dutch settlers first turned up here they thought the furry quokka inhabitants were giant rats, naming the island the Dutch for rat's nest; in fact the quokkas look more like fun size kangaroos and are extremely cute. There are many beautiful beaches here and you will probably leave wishing where you live had an offshore island quite so pretty.
Day 5 : Perth
Hop on the train to Fremantle and spend your day exploring the markets and historic centre. 'Freo', as it's inevitably known by the locals, is a charming seaside town full of colonial buildings and a great place to enjoy some waterside dining.
Day 6 : Albany
Collect your hire car and drive through the farming heartland of Western Australia to the south coast seaside town of Albany.
Day 7 : Albany
Walk the streets of this historic maritime town and explore convict jails, old taverns, whaling ships, settlers' cottages and grand National Trust homes.
Day 8 : Albany
Keep your eyes peeled for whales this morning before visiting the Torndirrup National Park this afternoon, where you can admire the Indian Ocean tussling with the various blowholes and rock formations.
Day 9 : Pemberton
Travel close to the Southern Ocean along the coastal road to Walpole and take the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk. This impressively engineered structure allows you to walk through the canopy of tingle forest 40 metres above the ground. There's a pretty walk at ground level for those less keen on heights.
Day 10 : The Margaret River region
Continue your journey west today into the beautiful Margaret River region. The journey should take around three hours and once you reach here you will spend two nights.Enjoy a morning walk along coastal trails keeping an eye out for migrating whales. Spend the rest of your day sampling wine in a boutique winery; Margaret River only produces 3% of Australia's wine, but 20% of its premium wine.
Day 11 : The Margaret River region
Enjoy a full day wine tour today, your guide will show you the best that the region has to offer as he drives you around to various tastings.
