Description

Explore untouched stretches of Rocky Mountain wilderness  – without having to ‘rough it.’

Imagine riding through postcard-perfect alpine scenery, where the only folks around you are the guides and your fellow riders. In 6 unforgettable days, you’ll venture past grassy ridges, charming meadows and tranquil rivers – spots where elk and deer are easy to see.

Plenty of side trips are also available, depending on conditions. This might include journeying to the headwaters of Stoney Creek to watch bighorn sheep graze in the meadows. You could also head up to Block Mountain to take in spellbinding mountain scenery. The camps you’ll be staying in go far beyond rustic.

Curl up in an A-frame canvas tent set on a raised wooden platform and listen to the sounds of the forest as you drift asleep. In the morning, freshen up at the wash stand (complete with hot water) and then enjoy a meal prepared for you in the giant kitchen tent.

Experience hot springs, glacial ice fields, and breathtaking views of soaring peaks in Canada's Rocky Mountains. Journey over rolling foothills and through interior canyons to discover the frontier legends of homesteaders, cowboys, and gold seekers. The spectacular mountain park settings of Banff, Jasper, and Whistler give way to the port cities of Vancouver and Victoria. Revel in the Pacific experience from awesome coastal scenery to boat cruises across blue-water straits where whales travel and bald eagles soar
Itinerary: Stoney Creek

Day 1

All riders meet at Warner Stables at 8:30 a.m. to check in, before being transported by van to the trailhead corral at Mount Norquay. There you meet your guides and horses, and mount up for the eleven mile ride over Elk Lake Summit between Brewster Mountain and Cascade Mountain, and down into Stoney Creek Camp. There will be a stop for lunch at Elk Lake along the way.

Day 2

A ride is taken toward the headwaters of Stoney Creek (with a creekside lunch), returning to camp for the night. This area is a favorite haunt of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, who are often grazing in the high meadows, providing ample opportunity for pictures.

Day 3

The riders mount up, and ride the ten miles to Flint’s Park Camp with lunch at Cascade river. This camp, located in the center of open, grassy ridges topped with high peaks, has become a favorite of many of our riders. Wildlife is commonly seen and photographed in this area.

Day 4

A day ride is conducted from camp to Block Mountain, or perhaps to Cuthead Viewpoint – just two of the many points of interest accessible from Flint’s Park. Today’s lunch site varies depending on the route taken. This area has much to offer the rider, photographer, hiker and fisherman alike.

Day 5

The ride from Flints Park to Mystic Valley is a highlight of the trip. The ride can include Rainbow Lake, the stunning 40 Mile Pass, Vermillion Range which runs to the east, and Sawback to the west. Before we set off, guests have the opportunity to observe the historic art of horse packing, using the famous diamond hitch. When everything is securely in place, we ride into Mystic Valley for the final night. It is traditional to have a real western dinner to celebrate the last night at the camp. Time to kick your cowboy boot heels and have a wind-up get-together!

Day 6

Unfortunately, every trip has a last day, but what better way to end the trip than with the scenic nine mile ride from Mystic Valley to the Mount Norquay Corral with a lunch stop at 40 Mile Creek. The “Full Circle” has been completed and the riders return to Warner Stables at approximately 5:00 p.m.
