Description |
This is the safari that you have imaged! It combines the safari ambiance of yesteryear with the convenience of modern day comforts. Nothing is left behind when it comes to your experience. You’ll have individual attention, a high comfort level, superb guides and camp staff, campfires, stories of the bush and great game drives. Our camps are quite comfortable and appropriate for a safari, never overdone. And meals in the bush are an experience you will never forget – with candle-lit tables, delicious picnics in the bush, and a glass of wonderful wine or a cocktail after a full day out in the bush. |
Our 8 day LuxVenture trip offers rugged sophistication, remote locations, moonlit merriment and "wild" wildlife interactions. Experience the raw thrills of the African bush, make a genuine connection with the Tanzanian people and leave your own lasting legacy. Each safari tented camp has been road tested by our team within the last 12 months to ensure it meets our exacting standards. This trip is certainly not for everyone but for those brave enough to commit, you will leave Africa transformed. |
Day 1: Arusha, Tanzania
Accommodation: Arusha Coffee Lodge
A warm ‘Jambo’ greets you in Arusha! After making your way through the airport formalities, you are whisked away to your hotel for a relaxing evening before your Hemingway style adventure begins!
Day 2 & 3: Tarangire National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Tarangire Treetops
This morning, head out on safari! Meet your private safari guide, board your 4 x 4 safari cruiser and you are off to Tarangire National Park, is the quintessence of Old Africa. The intriguing atmosphere here seems almost prehistoric, with ancient baobab trees, hanging sausage trees and outlines of strangely horned antelope and tall giraffe. This area has a very different and magical feel. The wildlife viewing is excellent, with many migratory animals returning in early summer to the only permanent water source in the area – the Tarangire River and its tributaries. It is one of the best places in Tanzania to see elephants. You’ll also have the opportunity to take a walking safari and an exciting night game drive.
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Plantation Lodge
This morning, take off for the Rift Valley and Lake Manyara National Park. The park lies at the foot of the escarpment of at an altitude of 3,100 feet. Lake Manyara consists of five different vegetation zones including groundwater forest with giant fig and mahogany trees, marshlands and reedbeds, stretches of open grassland, acacia woodland, and, on the escarpment slopes, thorn bushes and baobabs. The highlight of the park’s wildlife is the wonderful hippo population. Elephant, giraffe, monkeys, lion and impala are also to be found. Over 380 species of birds have been identified within the park.
Continue to Karatu where a light hike through forest highlands takes you to the cave like structure created by the elephants digging up the earth. The rich soil attracts not only the elephant but buffalo, bushbuck, waterbuck and baboons.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Serena Lodge or Sopa Lodge
Continue your journey, descending 2,000 feet into the largest, complete caldera in the world. This World Heritage Site is estimated that more than 30,000 animals can be found within the crater walls at any one time. It is home to the largest non-migratory populations of wildlife in East Africa including prides of lion, the rare black rhino, elephant, cheetah, antelope, great herds of Cape buffalo and so many more. Because the crater floor is mostly grassland with patches of acacia woodland, game viewing is excellent. Explore the forest areas where you can see monkey and elephant, the lake area where you may see the beautiful flamingos, hippos and the open savannahs where the majestic “Kings”, the lions, hunt for food.
Day 6: Olduvai Gorge/serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Born Free Mobile Tented Camp
Wake up with fabulous views of sunrise over Ngorongoro. Then out over the highlands to Olduvai Gorge. This is the site where the Leakey’s discovered the fossil of Homo habilis man, who lived over 1.70 million years ago.
We head deep into the heart of the most diverse migration areas in the world. During the migration this corridor is the home to thousands of wildebeests, zebra and plains game. With them follow the predators. Each day in the Serengeti will be different as the wild animals play out the stories of birth, survival and death on the plains – and hopefully we will be there to see it all!
Arrive at the exclusive Born Free Mobile Camp where you are greeted by the smiling camp staff. A comfortable bed, a hot shower, delicious dinner and a roaring campfire a wait. Retire early tonight with sounds of the bush echoing through camp.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Born Free Mobile Tented Camp
Each morning the tent steward will gently knock on your tent – bringing you hot coffee or tea and biscuits. Your dawn game drive promises to be most exciting. This is the time when the wildlife is most active. Game drives are unlimited and you can go out on full day drives with a picnic lunch or return to camp – relax and go out again in the afternoon
Day 8 & 9: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Migration Camp
Bid fond farewell to the camp staff and board your vehicle for a full day exploring the park. We now move to another area of the Serengeti to hopefully find that one species that may have been missed. Tonight’s stay will be in lodge accommodations.
Day 10: Your Journey Onwards
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After breakfast, you part with your guide at this point and board your flight to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, those departing from Nairobi will be treated to lunch before boarding the flight to Nairobi. For those departing from Tanzania there will be a dayroom for your convenience and then evening transfers for your onward flight.
Day 1: Arusha
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Lake Duluti Lodge Luxury lodge
All drinks (Except for spirits/liquor)
Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
Watch the famous Kilimanjaro mountain rise up over the horizon as you fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania, near the northern Tanzanian border. Your Ker & Downey Africa adventurist will meet you from your flight and transfer you the short distance to the first stop on your LuxVenture trip, Lake Duluti Lodge.
Lake Duluti Lodge is situated on the banks of Lake Duluti, within a 31 acre coffee plantation, and to the South of Arusha National Park. It consists of 18 classic style chalets on a full board basis.
Although your stay here is limited to an afternoon and early morning, we recommend that you make the most of its stunning location by borrowing a kayak and heading out onto the lake. Alternatively enjoy a hike through the trails that wind their way through the coffee plantation or get a tour of the working farm.
If you are travelling as a family, the lodge can accommodate children free of charge.
Day 2-3: Tarangire National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Nimali
Luxury tented camp bordering Tarangire NP without fences
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Tarangire National Park
You will spend the next two days exploring the Tarangire region. Enjoy day and night time game drives (which opens up a whole range of nocturnal species for you to discover). Expect to see giraffe, elephant, buffalo as well as the occasional lion or leopard. On our last visit to the park in June 2017, we were fortunate enough to sight a leopard up a tree, a rare sight indeed!
We strongly recommend foregoing the 4x4 on one of the mornings and embarking by foot on a guided walking safari along the dried river bed that runs parallel with Nimali Tarangire camp. It will give you a new found appreciation of the African bush and the smaller members of the animal kingdom.
Nimali Tarangire is a classic tented safari camp that offers comfort, exclusivity and style. Situated in a remote location, bordering the park and featuring only six suites as well as its own library, mess tent and swimming pool (overlooking a watering hole), you are guaranteed an intimate and sophisticated experience.
Day 4-5: Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Lemala Ngorongoro
Luxury tented camp located on the crater rim of Ngorongoro
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
On the morning of your fourth day, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En-route you will explore another of Tanzania's famous reserves, Lake Manyara National Park, where you will experience a completely different (aquatic) habitat to Tarangire or Ngorongoro.
Your next two days will be spent at Lemala Ngorongoro, a luxury tented camp on the north-eastern rim of the crater - providing you with the perfect vantage point. Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp guests can be down on the floor of the crater within 15 minutes of leaving camp, as opposed to the usual one hour journey of other camps in the region.
As for adventure, the experiences available in and around the crater ensure thrills in large doses. Daily game drives through the crater and guided walks along the rim of the crater offer up wildlife encounters at every step and point you could ask for while the unique Maasai boma experience allows you to truly connect with the local people of this famous region.
Day 6-7: Central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Nyaruswiga
Luxury+ tented camp located inside Serengeti NP
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park
Depending on what time of year you choose to travel with us, we will select a luxury tented camp that gives you the very best chance of sighting the maurading herd of wildebeest and zebra (also known as the Great Migration). We've chosen to feature one of our favourite camps in the Central Serengeti, Nyaruswiga, to give you a taste of what you have in store. Situated right in the heart of the Serengeti, Nyaruswiga is best visited in June, November and December.
From mid-July to late October, we would look to situate you in the northern part of the Serengeti, in or around the Lamai region. We may even recommend a night in the Masai Mara. From early January to late February, we would select a camp in the south of the Serengeti or in the Ndutu region.
Nyaruswiga epitomises the kind of camp that we are known for. It oozes style, sophistication and adventure. Hemmingway would have been right at home and so will you if you share the same adventurous spirit and love of safari.
Day 8: Departure
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: No accommodation (End of tour)
Drinks not included
Main Destination: No major destination visited
On your final day, you will depart after breakfast to the local airstrip to catch a short flight back to Arusha. The flight is an experience in itself as you will fly over the vast wilderness of the Serengeti as well as the Ngorongoro Crater. Be sure to keep you camera close by for some unforgettable aerial views.
