A land of contrasts – remote bush, magnificent beaches and underwater wonderlands. This tour combines two of the country’s best experiences: a safari in the Gorongosa National Park, as well as beach time on stunning Vamizi Island. The greater Gorongosa region is ecologically unique. Situated at the southernmost end of the Great African Rift Valley, this park is home to a great diversity of animals and plants, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. There is an excellent population of African elephant and lions, plus the rarely seen fire squirrels of the rainforest. Vamizi Island is the most stunning in a series of islands located off the coast of Mozambique. Diving is good all year, and the crystal-clear waters never drop below 77 degrees. Most of the reefs are in pristine condition and lie close to the shore. They offer a profusion of colorful soft corals which are host to some of the most amazing marine life in the world. Whether you snorkel or scuba dive, the remote island experience will be long remembered! |
Day 1: Beira – Gorongosa National Park

Arrive in Beira, where you will be met by a Born Free representative and head out by road to Gorongosa National Park! A brief afternoon game drive will take you to Chitengo, the park headquarters, and the Explore Gorongosa Camp for the evening.

Day 2 – 5: Gorongosa National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Spend these days exploring with the first private operator in Mozambique’s flagship national park. With a maximum capacity of only eight guests at any one time, Explore Gorongosa offers a truly intimate, private and unique safari experience. Explore Gorongosa specializes in walking safaris and also offers game drives in the park. The Gorongosa Park Restoration Project is slowly restoring the numbers of wildlife in the park, and birding is excellent, with rare birds found in the rainforests atop Mount Gorongosa.

Day 6 Gorongosa To Vamizi Island

Continue overland through this magnificent country to the airstrip, where you will connect with a flight to Pemba and Vamizi Island. On arrival you will be warmly welcomed and driven to the Vamizi Island Lodge, the only lodge in the area. Depending on your arrival time, you can choose to relax, walk the white sand beaches or sail the ocean blue.
Crusoe invented castaway chic, but Vamizi Island Lodge defines it, with thirteen impossibly romantic timber villas strung loosely along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
Day 7 – 9: Vamizi Island

Vamizi s near-perfect white coral beaches and breathtakingly beautiful shallows are just the beginning. Beneath the surface of the Vamizi seas is an outstanding reef scape – mountains, valleys, plateau and cliffs- teeming with a bewildering amount of sea life, from whales, dolphins, turtles and reef sharks to Gregorian corals and giant clams. Whether you want to dive, fish, swim or snorkel, this is the place!
Day 10: Vamizi Island And Your Journey Onwards

After breakfast, spend your morning on the beach before bidding farewell to Mozambique and boarding your onward international flight.
