Description |
Exploring 20,000 Years of Culture Cycling through the vineyards of the Médoc we will enter an 18thC reality. The manicured vineyards slope down to the river’s edge and confirm the fact that this trade is as manual as ever. The fabulous châteaux—not castles, but fantasy mansions used as weekend homes for merchants and princes—dominate the landscape, just as these legendary labels have dominated the world’s wine markets. As we crisscross the right and left bank of the Garonne River and Gironde Estuary, we slowly make ourselves at home in the Bordelais and its famed vineyards. |
Day 1
Ride from Margaux to Pauillac on gently rolling terrain between vineyards, stop for lunch near the village of Leyssac. This afternoon’s ride takes us into St-Estèphe, arguably the most scenic appellation of the Médoc. Tonight enjoy a Michelin two-star from hotel Chef Jean-Luc Rocha.
Day 2
Head to Médoc by ferry where you'll continue along the Gironde Estuary through rolling terrain and into the vineyards of the medieval town of St-Émilion, a UNESCO world heritage site. Later, rendezvous at a local wine merchant's shop for a comparative wine tasting.
Day 3
Explore the other great wine region of Bordeaux: the Right Bank, ancestral home of the world's best Merlots. Riding from Saint-Émilion into Pomerol, we pass legendary names before stopping in for a visit and tasting at Château Figeac.
Day 4
Head south through the vineyards into the Entre-Deux-Mers wine region. Cross the Dordogne River and bike along an old railway until you reach our private river boat where you will enjoy lunch. Once we arrive at the hotel relax and check out the vinotherapy spa before dinner at a charming local restaurant.
Day 5
Ride south to Barsac where we'll stop in at Château Roûmieu-Lacoste for a private tour and wine tasting with the very delightful owners. After lunch, head back to the spa for final pampering before apéritifs in the tower cigar room.
Day 6
After breakfast, we transfer to Bordeaux and say our farewells at the St. Jean train station. Wherever your travels may now take you, bon voyage!
