Description |
Masicorp, a community organization that operates out of Masiphumelele, was created to help the township live up to its name. Masicorp spearheads education initiatives and investment in enterprise so that the people there can improve their lives. Masicorp has been around for more than 14 years and in this time has built a trusted relationship with the community. Among Masicorp’s many achievements is the construction of a library and education resource center that offers free educational programs to the public. Masicorp’s approach is to work alongside the people of Masiphumelele, asking them how they need support and providing them with the resources to succeed. |
Day 1:
10:00am – 12:30pm: Meet your Masicorp representative and get a tour of the Masiphulelele township where you will learn about all of the different projects Masicorp is working on.
12:30 – 1:30: Lunch break (Bring your own or eat at “Nonny’s Bakery and Café” (a small local business supported by Masicorp’s entrepreneurial program)
2:00pm – 4:30pm: An afternoon “immersion” where you will observe one of these programs in action: the Library, the Primary School, the Women’s Center or a PreSchool.
Please note: Because Masicorp’s projects and programs do not run every day of the week, your “immersion” will depend on availability. Depending on their needs for that day you may be asked to help, or your time may consist of more observation rather than actual “doing.” Either way, the focus will be on learning about this unique grassroots organization, witnessing the work that they do and meeting the people they serve.
