    Description

"Over the course of 10 days, you’ll be immersed into an African safari experience unlike any other. Go behind-the-scenes at some of Kenya’s most renowned wildlife-viewing areas and lend a hand on projects directly benefiting some of East Africa’s most famous animal species.

In addition to our hands-on interaction with these innovative projects and epic safari drives, take time to meet with the indigenous Masai communities that inhabit the reserves and experience their traditional ways of life. Each night, return to your luxury tent and live amongst the wildlife in a pristine conservancy.

Our Purpose: Engage with local conservationists, researchers & indigenous communities to learn what it takes to protect critically endangered species. Collect data on lions, cheetah & elephants that will be used by local conservation groups to protect these exquisite creatures."

    Itinerary: Kenya: Safari & Conservation

    Day 1:

    Meals: Lunch and Dinner

Our guide will meet you upon arrival at Nairobi International Airport. Once the group has arrived, take the scenic drive out of the city to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Located on the plains of Mt. Kenya, the conservancy features a luxury tented camp clustered around a water hole that attracts wildlife from the park. Settle into your accommodations, enjoy an orientation to the Kenyan countryside and, after dinner, embark on an evening game drive through the conservancy.

    Day 2:

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast, head out into the reserve alongside a member of a pioneering local organization, the Exploring Lions Project. Over the last two decades, the African lion population has declined 30-50%. This group aims to change that by using data which we will collect over the course of the morning. Help the rangers track lions and experience these creatures up close and personal.

After lunch and a talk from the CEO of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, visit the reserve’s endangered species boma which is home to East Africa’s largest population of black rhino and the world’s last three remaining northern white rhinos.

    Day 3:

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Start the morning with an exciting opportunity to meet the reserve’s wildlife protection squads and anti-poaching dogs. Join them on a walk around the reserve and learn about techniques used to protect the rhino and other wildlife from poachers. After a delicious lunch overlooking the water hole, spend the afternoon at the Ol Pejeta Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Established in 1993 between the conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service & the Jane Goodall Institute, the sanctuary provides a safe haven for the recovery and rehabilitation of 39 chimpanzees –the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees.Later in the afternoon, take a safari game drive through park with our expert local guide.

Day 4: Drive from Sweetwaters to Brackenhurst

Lunch at Muna Tree Cafe (Brackenhurst). Afternoon at Brackenhurst forest w/ plants for life, then evening transfer to Nairobi hotel.

Day 5: Pick up from Nairobi hotel for Nairobi day excursion

    Drop off at hotel.

    Days 7-8:

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Over the next two days, we’ll immerse ourselves into the Mara Naboisho Conservancy and various projects developed to protect the wildlife and enhance community involvement. One afternoon, enjoy a game drive through the park while simultaneously collecting data with the local conservation staff. Along the way, visit a local Naboisho landowner village to see what traditional life looks like in the reserve. Another afternoon, join the Mara Cheetah and Lion Projects to track and identify lions and cheetahs in the park. Learn to identify paw prints and contribute to the reserve’s monitoring work that helps protect these creatures. One evening, enjoy the unique opportunity to accompany a Masai herder with livestock herds back to his boma. Experience the age-old traditions of this African tribe and take a step back into time.

    Day 9:

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Rise early and take a morning game drive through the reserve keeping an eye open for lions, giraffes, rhinos and cheetahs. We’ll continue to collect information on our sightings and take it back to our camp with us for the local team of conservationists. Enjoy a relaxing morning followed by a bit of help around the conservancy for those who choose to do so. Tonight, enjoy an evening game drive followed by a farewell dinner together. Recount our experiences over the past week and bid the local staff goodbye.

    Day 10:

    Meals: Breakfast

For those that rise early, venture out on a final morning game drive through the reserve before packing up and hitting the road back to Nairobi for our flights home.
