Description |
Norway is known for its natural charms. We explore some of the most beautiful and dramatic fjordland scenery in western Norway; a veritable voyage of discovery by land, train and boat to see snow-covered mountain peaks, spectacular waterfalls, picturesque valleys and idyllic farms clinging to the mountain slopes. We also visit Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. |
Day 1:
Ferry to Calais and overnight stay in Germany.
Day 2:
Travel onwards to our next overnight hotel in northern Germany, with dinner included.
Days 3 & 4:
We travel through Denmark and into Norway, with overnight stops in Copenhagen and Oslo, admiring the splendid, dramatic scenery that the Scandinavian countryside has to offer.
Day 5: Vossevangen via Gol
We make a stop in the small town of Gol, the shopping centre of the Hallingdal Valley and a lovely spot to pick up some original souvenirs, before arriving at our hotel in Vossevangen or Myrkdalen, our base for the next three nights.
Day 6: Bergen
Known as the Gateway to the Fjords, Norway’s second largest city of Bergen is also one of its most stunning. Attractions include the historic harbourside district of Bryggen, the lively Fish Market and Old Bergen with its small wooden houses, narrow alleyways and cobbled streets. Of course there are also a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy.
Day 7: Norway in a Nutshell
We journey by train on the Flåm Railway through some of the country’s most spectacular scenery, from snow-capped mountains to stunning waterfalls. This journey also includes a cruise on the Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest fjords in Europe and perhaps the most dramatic fjord in Norway.
Day 8: Ferry from Kristiansand to Hirtshals
We check out of our hotel early this morning and journey to Kristiansand to catch the ferry to Hirtshals in Denmark. There is plenty of time for a spot of on-board shopping or just to relax in the comfortable surroundings and admire the scenery. We continue on to our overnight hotel in northern Denmark, where dinner is included.
Day 9:
Travel to our overnight hotel in Germany.
Day 10:
Continue on to Calais for our return ferry home.
