Description

This 6 days Big Five African Safari departs from the town of Arusha in Northern Tanzania and heads out on a journey to experience the highlights of Tanzania. Our first stop will be Lake Manyara National Park, followed by the famous Serengeti National Park, then the wildlife – rich Ngorongoro Crater and lastly Tarangire national park. Each destination has something unique to offer from wide open plains with untamed wildlife to Africa’s Big 5 and stunning vistas. An affordable and fun journey through a truly magnificent region of the world!

The 7-day safari is a real “circle” on the northern route of Tanzania, as you make a detour through the Maasai area of Lake Natron and the Lobo area, the eastern part of the Serengeti. An active program takes you to the most famous parks but you’ll also drive over dusty roads in an isolated region, where time has stood still.

Itinerary: 6 Days Tanzania Deluxe Safari

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara

On arrival, you will be transferred to nearby Arusha, then board your 4×4 vehicle for the drive to Lake Manyara, enjoying breath-taking views of Tanzania enroute. You will arrive at the Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge just in time for lunch. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, home to hippos, elephants, flamingos, plains game, and the famous tree-climbing lions that reside here. The landscape is a mixture of dense forest, small open plains, and lush waterside grasses, a feast for herbivores such as buffalo. All meals are included.

Day 2: Lake Manyara to Serengeti

The morning begins with the long scenic drive north to the world renowned Serengeti National Park, arriving at the lovely Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti in time for lunch. This well-located mobile camp in the central Serengeti has just 10 comfortable tents with en-suite facilities and offers an authentic safari experience. In the afternoon, board your safari vehicle for a game drive exploring the open plains in the search of abundant wildlife. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight. All meals are included.

Day 3: Serengeti

Morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti will await today, seeking out the big cats, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, and many others that inhabit the vast open plains of this huge park which borders the Masai Mara in its northeast corner. The sheer scale and seemingly endless horizon in this part of Africa is simply spellbinding. There is also the opportunity to take an optional balloon safari over the plains. All meals are included.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro

After breakfast, you will depart for Ngorongoro, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains, with the option to visit the archaeological marvel of Olduvai Gorge, the discovery site of some of the earliest ever humanoid remains. You will have a lunch en-route. You will continue for an afternoon game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of nature’s true wonders. Its collapsed volcanic crater is 12 miles in diameter and 2,000 feet deep.

The lake attracts a huge range of wildlife, and your afternoon crater game viewing will seek to uncover them amongst the floor’s forests, grasses, and plains. Dinner and overnight are spent at the Oldeani Mountain Lodge, located on a hillside above the quiet town of Karatu, with beautiful rooms and far reaching views. All meals are included.

Day 5: Ngorongoro to Tarangire

In the morning, you will have an option to go back to the Ngorongoro for a half-day game drive before heading to The Tarangire National Park. Tarangire National Park is one of the most famous parks in Africa for elephant population. It has remarkable number of elephants per square meter than any other park in Africa. Here you will have a half-day afternoon game drive before going back to the Tarangire Safari Lodge for an overnight. All meals are included.

Day 6: Tarangire to Arusha

You will have a half-day game drive in Tarangire before going back to Arusha. This is expected to be last day of your safari and if you have a flight to your next destination, Scenic Trails Safaris will gladly transfer you to the airport at no additional costs. If you also wish to spend this day in Arusha, they can arrange that too. Breakfast and lunch are included.

Itinerary: Circle of Wildlife

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Meals: Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Nimali Tarangire Lodge

Activity: Game drive in Tarangire

On arrival at the airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to the Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six thousand elephant. Late in the afternoon you will drive to your tented lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tarangire – Lake Natron Game Controlled Area

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Natron River Camp

Activity: Visit of Lake Natron and Maasai village

After breakfast, you will leave the area around Tarangire and head in the direction of Mto wa Mbu. Via exciting tracks along the Rift Valley Escarpment, you will travel to the Lake Natron Game Controlled Area. This route is an ‘insider’s tip’ and has only recently been opened up to tourists. After passing Maasai villages, you will then travel on to the famous mountains of the Rift Valley, Mount Gelai or the Ol Doinyo Lengai, ‘the holy mountain of the Maasai’. Today’s destination is a beautiful small Maasai village. With its trees offering shade and a nearby waterfall, it is just what an oasis should be in the hot, dry and dusty Rift Valley. In the distance, a pink glow shimmers from thousands of flamingos breeding on the alkaline Lake Natron. You will stay overnight at one of the tented camps near to the lake itself.

Day 3: Lake Natron – Serengeti Lobo Area

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Serengeti View Camp

Activity: Game drive in the Serengeti

After an early start, you will travel along exciting dirt tracks with wondrous views as your vehicle climbs out of the Rift Valley to reach the wide-open plains of the Serengeti by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the most famous park in Tanzania as it is home to the largest animal migration on the planet. The migrating animals are free to roam where they please and are not confined solely to the park boundaries. However, it has been witnessed that they are straying further afield and to this date, the wildlife watching can only be described of as spectacular. You will stay overnight in a tented camp in the Lobo Area.

Day 4: Serengeti Lobo Area – Serengeti Seronera

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Nyumbani Serengeti Camp

Activity: Game drive in the Serengeti

After an early start, you will participate in an early morning wildlife tour. Back at your accommodation, a hearty breakfast will be waiting for you, which will be followed by further wildlife watching in the Seronera Valley, where you will find wildebeest and zebras and often lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs. Dinner and overnight in a tented camp.

Day 5: Serengeti – Olduvai Gorge – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Pakulala Safari Camp

Activity: Game drive in the Serengeti // Visit to Olduvai Gorge

The morning is set aside for further wildlife watching in the Serengeti. You continue game driving on your way to Naabi Hill Gate and towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. After midday, you will leave the plains and travel to the Ngorongoro Crater. Dinner and overnight near the crater rim in a tented camp.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Crater Highlands

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Oldeani Mountain Lodge

Activity: Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

As soon as you have reached the edge of the crater the caldera opens up before you and is a sight to behold. You’ll descend onto the crater floor to emerge into this fishbowl of wildlife. On the grass steppe and in the acacia tree woods, you will find almost all species that are found in the East African savannah; with the exception of topis, Masai giraffes and impalas. Quite often you can observe the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinoceros and leopards) within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour you leave the Conservation Area for dinner and overnight in a lodge in the Crater Highlands.

Day 7: Crater Highlands – Lake Manyara – Arusha

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Accommodation: Serengeti View Camp

Activity: Game drive in Manayara

Today you will visit the last national park on the Northern Circuit. The Lake Manyara National Park is known for its rare ‘tree climbing lions’. A large area of the park covers the alkaline Manyara Lake which seasonally is visited by large colonies of flamingo and other water birds. On the lakeshore you can see elephants, hippopotami, guenon, buffalo, banded mongoose, various antelopes and gazelles. After plenty of wildlife watching you will be driven back to Arusha for your flight home or further destination.
