Description |
On this popular Southwest vacation, embarking in Las Vegas, discover the unique landscapes of Arizona, Utah and Nevada as we travel through three national parks—as well as Lake Powell—and lots of beautiful scenery. |
Day 1: Las Vegas
Accommodations: Monte Carlo, Las Vegas, NV
Welcome to Las Vegas, the “Entertainment Capitol of the World”! Depending on your arrival time you might start exploring or relax poolside, but just make sure you are back in time for our group meeting early evening and then maybe dinner together as a group!
Day 2: Las Vegas/Zion
Meals: Lunch
Accommodations: La Quinta Inn & Suites, Springdale UT
This morning meet your tour director at 8:00am at the Monte Carlo Hotel for our departure to begin our adventure and go directly to Zion National Park, a short 3 hours drive away.
Zion is one of nature’s greatest wonders. Gigantic red and white rock monoliths tower around you like a skyscraper city of stone, concealing pockets of abundant flora and fauna. See the Great White Throne, Angel’s Landing, the Court of the Patriarchs, and the Narrows where the Virgin River has carved out a narrow canyon with 2,000-foot cliffs on each side.
Two hiking options are offered for the best hikes in Zion: Angel’s Landing is a strenuous, 1,300 hike up to the top of a huge sandstone monolith. Not for the faint of heart or anyone who is afraid of heights. Or, a more moderate hike includes Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock, and other nearby trails.
Day 3: Virgin River Narrows & Canyon Overlook
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Accommodations : La Quinta Inn & Suites, Springdale UT
Today the whole group will hike up the Virgin River Narrows, actually walking in the narrow Virgin River between 2,000 foot tall cliffs. Shoes and hiking stick are included. A picnic lunch is provided for us. Later, the group will be taken up to hike the Canyon Overlook and explore the upper part of the park. Evening is free for dinner with new friends from the group.
Day 4: Bryce Canyon & Kanab
Accommodations: Victorian Inn, Kanab
After breakfast, we travel two hours to Bryce Canyon. There is no other place like Bryce in the whole world. Two hiking options are available, one strenuous down into Bryce’s famous hoodoos and the Peek-a-boo loop. A more moderate hike will be along the rim of the canyon. There are a number of great viewing places for all to see and experience in the rest of the park.
Around mid-afternoon, we travel an hour and a half to Kanab, a small town known for all the famous movies filmed in the area, for the evening.
Day 5: Lake Powell & Antelope Canyon
Accommodations: Victorian Inn, Kanab
Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast, we travel an hour to Lake Powell for a half day kayak adventure. Lake Powell has over 2,000 miles of shoreline and is one of America’s most beautiful lakes. There are lots of unique and interesting places to explore and discover.
After lunch on your own, we tour famous Antelope Canyon with local Navajo’s. This will be a highlight of the tour as many find this narrow slot canyon to be like walking through a cathedral.
Once we are finished, we take a two mile hike to see the spectacular Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River, hundreds of feet below. We then return to Kanab for the evening.
Day 6: Grand Canyon North Rim
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodations: Victorian Inn, Kanab
After breakfast we head out to the Grand Canyon North Rim (1.5 hour away). Here the almost incomprehensible vastness of this natural mystery leaves many speechless upon their first glimpse. Although it is only about 20 miles across the canyon to the South Rim, the North Rim stands as more rustic, higher elevation, slightly cooler, and much less crowded than its southern cousin. From vantage points on the rim you can not only see the Colorado River at the bottom, but also see beyond the South Rim to the expansive Navajo Tribal Lands.
We’ll hike a portion of the Uncle Jim Trail (3-5 miles) on the canyon rim.
Returning to Kanab in time for our farewell dinner and a night of fun at the Chuck Wagon Cookout and dinner show called “How the West was Lost”. Over 100 or so western movies were made in Kanab area and after a delicious dinner, these folks “shoot” another episode of their authentic western movie. The group dresses up as cowboys, soldiers, pioneers, Indians, dance hall girls, and together, we make another “take” of the famous movie “How the West was Lost”.
Day 7: Kanab to Las vegas Airport
Meals: Breakfast
After an early breakfast, we depart Kanab and make our way back to the Las Vegas McCarran Airport for your afternoon departure flight, arriving into LAS airport approximately 1 p.m., (make your flight any time after 3:00 p.m.). As you travel home, remember all the wonderful memories and friends you have met on your fabulous vacation!
