Itinerary: essential Deep South

Day 1 London - Nashville
Fly from London Heathrow Airport on a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Nashville. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Nashville-Brentwood (3T), located a 15-minute drive from downtown Nashville.

Day 2 Nashville
Today will include a visit to RCA Studio B, where more than 35,000 songs were produced, including 40 million-selling singles and over 200 Elvis Presley recordings. Hear original recordings done at Studio B, see the 1970s‐era analogue equipment that was used, and even get a chance to take photos at the Steinway Piano that Elvis used to play. We take a city tour of Nashville, introducing us to the sights of the ‘Country Music Capital of the World’. Highlights include the world’s only full-scale replica of the Athenian Parthenon, which stands in Centennial Park, and the 19th century Tennessee State Capitol. Also included will be a visit to the impressive Country Music Hall of Fame, packed full with little-known information and memorabilia.

Day 3 Nashville - Muscle Shoals - Tupelo
Our next musical destination is Muscle Shoals, the legendary ‘Hit Recording Capital of the World’, where we visit Alabama Music Hall of Fame, which holds personal memorabilia from stars including Tammy Wynette, The Commodores, Wilson Pickett, and Percy Sledge. This evening we arrive at our hotel for the night, the Hilton Garden Inn Tupelo (3T). Perhaps take a stroll and see the Tupelo Hardware Store, where Gladys Presley bought her son Elvis his first guitar.

Day 4 Tupelo - Memphis
Visit the Elvis Presley Birthplace Museum, based around the humble two-roomed shack where ‘The King’ spent his early years. We then make the short journey to Memphis - a city with a rich and unique musical heritage, known as the ‘Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and the ‘Home of the Blues’. Enjoy a Memphis orientation tour before we check in at the Doubletree by Hilton Memphis Downtown (3T).

Day 5 Memphis
No trip to Memphis is complete without a pilgrimage to the home of ‘The King’. The Graceland Mansion Tour includes an interactive audio and video guided tour of Elvis’ estate, complete with commentary from the people who knew him best, and original home videos. You will get to see the famous Jungle Room, his extensive collection of impressive awards, learn more about the humanitarian and local hero that he was, and pay your respects at the final resting place of Elvis and his family. After your tour you will have time to peruse the gift shops and maybe grab one of Elvis’ favourite fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches in Gladys’ Diner.

Day 6 Memphis - Indianola
We leave Memphis today and travel south to Clarksdale to visit the Delta Blues Museum, the centre for blues culture since the 1920s and the birthplace of many legendary musical artists including Ike Turner and Sam Cooke. We continue to Indianola, where in the early and mid-20th century, a number of Blues musicians originated, including BB King who worked in the local cotton industry before pursuing a professional musical career. We check in to the Hampton Inn Indianola (3T).

Day 7 Indianola - New Orleans
We arrive at New Orleans, also known as The Big Easy, the largest city in the state of Louisiana. Named after the Duke of Orleans, New Orleans is well known for its distinct French heritage and strong European culture. It is also famous for its cuisine, festivals, and music - particularly as the birthplace of jazz. Transfer to the Wyndham New Orleans French Quarter (4T) for three nights.

Days 8-9 New Orleans
Enjoy two full days at leisure to explore the Crescent City or join an optional guided tour to enjoy the highlights of this city. Discover where jazz was born, visit the oldest African-American neighbourhood and learn about local architecture and Voodoo history. There are many restaurants available - maybe sample some delicious Creole cuisine, like Gumbo and Jumbalaya.

Day 10 New Orleans - In flight
At leisure today before transferring to New Orleans for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London.

Day 11 London
Arrive at London Heathrow Airport.
