Sailing from Besancon, discover the beautiful ancient villages of Dole and Petit-Ouges, explore the exceptional village of Arc-et-Senans and its Saline Royale and, culminating in Dijon, bring your taste buds to life with the delights of Burgundy’s finest vineyards. |
Day 1 UK - Geneva - Besancon
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Geneva. On arrival, our coach will transfer into France and to the port in Besancon to embark MS Jeanine (4T) with time to settle in before a welcome cocktail party and dinner.
Day 2 Besancon - Ranchot
This morning we take a coach to Arc-et-Senans for a tour of the UNESCO-listed Saline Royale (Royal Saltworks), built between 1775 and 1779 at the wish of King Louis XV. The saltworks, along with an arc of buildings which housed the employees, the stables, blacksmiths and the guards building, were used as intended for over a century. Today it is open for visitors and used as an elegant setting for concerts and a garden festival. Within the exhibitions you can trace the story of the site and the operations involved in salt production. Returning to our vessel, we sail to Ranchot where we dock overnight.
Day 3 Ranchot - Dole
Relax this morning as we sail to Dole. After lunch on board, we join a unique tour to follow the 'Trail of the Perched Cat'. The trail is named for the famous tales by Marcel Aymé, who spent his childhood in this town, and takes you to the town’s most appealing sites, including the house where Louis Pasteur, the chemist and microbiologist who revolutionised healthcare by developing vaccinations and pasteurised milk, was born.
Day 4 Dole - Saint-Jean-de-Losne
Enjoy another morning of relaxation as we follow the canal routes through towns and farmland to join the Saône. This afternoon we visit the attractive town of Saint-Jean-de-Losne, considered France’s capital of canal barging. Sitting on the juncture of the Saône and the Burgundy Canal, this small French village forged a prestigious past through its historical popularity as a stop for riverboats.
Day 5 Saint-Jean-de-Losne - Petit-Ouges
This morning, watch the world go by as we float along the Saône. Later this afternoon we arrive in Petit-Ouges for time at leisure in this small and peaceful commune. Take this opportunity to explore the rural setting of this 7th century village and the three ancient wash houses.
Day 6 Petit-Ouges - Dijon
The beautiful scenery continues as we sail alongside the numerous vineyards of Dijon. We explore the finest and most prestigious of Burgundy’s vineyards later today, with an excursion along the Grands Crus wine route. Our drive takes in some of the 38 picturesque villages, each with their own unique ‘Climat’ for pinot noir or chardonnay grapes, and includes opportunities to taste their delicious produce. Monks began making wine in Burgundy in AD 640, and has been perfected by vintners over the centuries.
Day 7 Dijon - Geneva - UK
Transfer to Geneva Airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
