Itinerary: Treasures of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest

Day 1 London - Seattle
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport for a Virgin Atlantic flight to Seattle. On arrival, we transfer to the Mayflower Park Hotel (4T) for a two-night stay. The rest of the evening is free for you to explore.

Day 2 Seattle
Get your bearings this morning with an orientation tour of the city, including a visit to the Space Needle. From the top of this 1962 hourglass landmark, the 360° observation deck offers you fantastic views of the ‘Emerald City’ and the lakes and mountains beyond. The afternoon is yours to do as you please - sample cheeses, cured meats and chocolate at Pike Place Market, or join an optional excursion to the Boeing Factory.

Day 3 Seattle - Portland
We stop in at Mount St Helens on our way down to Oregon. Set up a few years after the 1980 eruption, you can watch a feed of the volcano’s current seismic activity and gaze up at its snow-dusted slopes across the glassy waters of Silver Lake. We continue to our hotel in Portland, the Hotel Modera (4T).

Day 4 Portland
We take on a full-day tour of Portland today, including the Pioneer Courthouse (the oldest federal building in the Pacific Northwest) and a stroll through the serene spaces of the Portland Japanese Garden, where sand gardens are raked into Zen-like patterns and trees and shrubs are clipped to form painting-perfect arrangements. Enjoy the International Rose Test Garden, where many rose bushes can perfume the air.

Day 5 Portland - Bend
Scenery comes on a grand scale today. We view Multnomah Falls, which cascade down from the glaciers and snowfields of nearby Mount Hood. There will be spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge and Bonneville Dam, before we make our way down to Smith Rock State Park, with towering basalt cliffs dotted with rock climbers. We finish up in the charming small city of Bend, home to bohemian boutiques, artisan coffee shops and craft breweries. We check in at the Red Lion Inn & Suites (3T).

Day 6 Bend - Newport
We make our way to the coast today, passing through the beautiful Willamette National Forest as we cross the Cascade Range. The seaside town of Newport is famous for its seafood - this evening, enjoy a crabbing demonstration followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Our hotel for the next two nights is the Elizabeth Street Inn (3T).

Day 7 Newport
You’ve got the day free to explore Newport. Browse the galleries and bookshops around Nye Beach, or perhaps head down to the Bayfront area for a bowlful of fresh seafood chowder. This evening, we’ll build a beach bonfire to toast s’mores - gooey marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched between two biscuits. Please note: in inclement weather, this popular campfire treat will be served at poolside fire pits.

Day 8 Newport - Ashland
On our way out of Newport, we will stop off at Yaquina Bay for a photo stop at the 19th century lighthouse. Continuing down Highway 101, we call in at Sea Lion Caves, one of the few mainland rookeries of these fascinating creatures, before stopping for lunch in Coos Bay. Leaving the coast behind, we travel cross-country to the little town of Ashland, just north of the Californian border, where we spend two nights at the Ashland Springs Hotel (3T+).

Day 9 Crater Lake National Park
Today, we travel to Crater Lake, formed 7,700 years ago by the eruption of Mount Mazama. Fed purely by rainwater and melting snow, the waters here are some of the clearest in the world. The surrounding slopes of the volcano are blanketed in woodland, with plenty of viewpoints for taking in the scenery. We return to Ashland, home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and your evening is free to perhaps watch a performance this evening.

Day 10 Ashland - Redwood National Park - Eureka
Crossing from Oregon into California, we make our way back to the rugged Pacific coast. A scenic drive takes us through Redwood National Park, one of a group of parks declared as an International Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site, for our first glimpse of these colossal trees. We’ll also make a brief photo stop at The Carson Mansion, one of the most written about and photographed Victorian houses in California. On arrival into Eureka we check into the Best Western Eureka Humboldt Bay Inn (3T) and the evening is free for you to explore the Old Town or go for a sunset stroll along the waterfront esplanade.

Day 11 Eureka - Humboldt Redwoods State Park - San Francisco
Our first port of call today is the Avenue of the Giants, one of the most famous scenic drives in the country. The route - a section of the old Highway 101 through Humboldt Redwoods State Park - takes us through forests filled with towering redwood trees. From here, we plot a course south towards Kendall-Jackson wine estate for a tasting in the heart of Sonoma wine country. We finish up in San Francisco and check in to Parc 55 San Francisco - A Hilton Hotel (4T) for two nights. This evening perhaps join an optional seafood dinner and night drive.

Day 12 San Francisco
This morning, you’ll get to know the ‘City by the Bay’ with a guided tour that includes Fisherman’s Wharf and Lombard Street. The afternoon is yours to discover the sights and sounds of San Francisco under your own steam. Opt for a cruise around the bay, walk the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, or perhaps venture back to Fisherman’s Wharf for fresh crab and clam chowder by the water.

Day 13 San Francisco - In flight
Enjoy a leisurely morning before we transfer to the airport for a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to London.

Day 14 London
Arrival at London Heathrow where you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
