Itinerary: 4-Day Classic El Calafate Tour

Day 1 Arrival in El Calafate

Upon your arrival at the El Calafate International Airport, you will be met and transferred to the Hainen hotel in the city center. The rest of the day will be free for you to spend at your leisure.

Day 2 Perito Moreno Glaciar Mini Trek OR Perito Moreno Glacier Boat Safari

Depending on your departure date you will take one of two Los Glaciares excursions, both of which are perfect for those nature lovers who want to explore lakes, rivers, mountains and trails to discover one of its greatest wonders. Perito Moreno Glaciar Mini Trek - August to May Trekking over the Perito Moreno Glacier is a one of a kind experience! Nothing beats walking over the ice and enjoying the perspective on your crampons. After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and we will head towards Los Glaciares National Park. We will head towards the pier located in “Bajo de las Sombras” port, about 6 km before the glacier Balconies- where you will embark for a 20 minutes navigation across the Rico Arm, enjoying breathtaking views of the Perito Moreno glacier’s front wall. After getting closer to the glacier, you will finally disembark on the opposite shore where our specialized bilingual mountain guides will welcome you and lead you to a small shelter. Once we've checked the last details you will follow your guides along the lake’s shore towards the edge of the glacier. There, the real adventure will start and you step foot on the glacier! Once on the ice, your guides will give you a pair of crampons and explain how to use them. The two hours circuit that follows introduces you to the fascinating landscape of the glaciers: streams, small lagoons, gullies, crevasses and plenty of ice formations of the most incredible blues. The ice surface over which you walk is irregular, but firm and safe. You will receive explanations about flora, fauna, general glaciology of the region and also about the particular phenomenon that happens in the Perito Moreno Glacier and eventually produces its rupture. After the walk, a stroll through the forest brings you back to the shelter. From the shelter, you will embark again to get back to the pier, from where we will take you back to your hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy El Calafate. WHAT TO BRING? Outfit: Sport shoes or trekking boots. Rubber and apres ski boots, as well as high heel shoes are not allowed. Comfortable sports wear, long trousers, warm sweater or pile, water or windproof jacket, sun glasses, sun block, gloves. Lunch: Passengers must bring their lunch boxes. IMPORTANT Restrictions: due to the degree of effort and difficulty that this excursion presents, is NOT allowed for; pregnant women, people with overweight, some type of disability, or health problems. Age: Between 10 and 65 years old. All these services are provided daily. The complete tour with transportation from El Calafate takes around 10 hours. Perito Moreno Glacier Boat Safari - June to July What makes it really special is the boat tour, which allows you to get closer to the Perito Moreno Glacier area, providing a unique experience, because of the views and landscapes, which are impossible to see any other way. After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and we will head towards Los Glaciares National Park. We will drive along the scenic Route 11, which runs alongside the main course of Lago Argentino on our way to Brazo Rico. Once in the park, we will go to Curva de los Suspiros, where we will get off the vehicle to take a first look at the Perito Moreno Glacier, which is certainly an amazing image. Later we will make another stop at the Muelle bajo las Sombras, where we will navigate to get closer to the southern wall of the glacier. By boat we will approach to the stunning Perito Moreno ice walls, getting close enough to contemplate its immensity and also to observe the ice landslides that continually take place. As we get to the front wall, the boat will stop for a few minutes to get a better look at the landscape, giving us a very good opportunity to take interesting photographs and film the scene. Then we will go to the front catwalks of the glacier, where we will see it from several balconies located at different heights, allowing to appreciate it from different angles, each more beautiful than the last one. Finally we will enjoy some free time to spot the different detachments that continually take place, and those who want to, can enjoy lunch at any of the restaurants near the runways. In the afternoon we will return to El Calafate and we will drop you off at your hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy El Calafate.
