See the iconic capital city sights of Budapest, Vienna and Prague as your local Travel Director takes the reins on this 10-day adventure. Starting with a spot of Budapest sightseeing, your introduction to Hungary’s capital tracks through the cobblestone streets of the Castle district to the sweeping city views from the Fisherman’s Bastion. A strudel tasting paired with rich, aromatic coffee precedes a journey along the Danube to Vienna—the home of the Habsburg royals. The regal grandeur of Schönbrunn Palace gives way to an abundance of local dining in Vienna and the chance to taste Austria’s most delectable dishes. In the Czech Republic, the fairytale town of Český Krumlov delights with its ageless charm and in Prague, your Local Expert guides you through the city of a hundred spires. |
Day 0: Optional Arrival
Sziasztok! Opt into an early Thursday arrival- we recommend it! Those arriving Thursday can opt in to the exciting boat party on the Danube beneath the sparkling lights of the bridges, the Parliament and Budapest's Castle District. This boat cruise can be booked through the hostel when you arrive.
Day 1: Meet Pest
We'll meet up with WSA's local guide at 10:30 at the hostel for a quick orientation. We'll stroll down Andrássy Avenue, Budapest's main boulevard. We'll continue onto some more highlights like the Hungarian Parliament building, Heroes' Square, Liberty Square, St. Stephen's Basilica, Vajdahunyad Castle. We'll zip over to the world-famous Széchenyi Baths to soak away the rest of the afternoon.
Evening: Escape games (Budapest's most popular local activity), where groups have 60 minutes to 'escape' your way out of a locked room. As long as we get out, we'll catch up with the hostel's pub crawl through Budapest's famous ruin bars! Left in shambles after WWII, this area was reborn bursting with young, fun atmosphere that can't be missed.
Day 2: Saturday: Onto Buda
Morning: Wear comfy attire and shoes for the caving adventure later! Today we start at the Great Market--the largest and oldest indoor market in the city. Take this free time for souvineir shopping, and grab a bite at one of it's many delicious food stands and enjoy a panoramic tram ride along the Danube.
Afternoon: Now that you're well-fed, it's time to strap on jump-suits and headlamps, for caving beneath the hills of Buda! These massive underground caverns are filled with awe-inspiring stalagmite and stalactite mineral formations that draw visitors from all over the world. Those opting out of caving can take a chairlift ride to Budapest's lookout or opt into a bike cart ride on Margit Island.
Evening: We'll hit Buda's breathtaking Castle Quarter, including Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion. You may also opt in for the "Sparty" (Spa party) at the baths which can be booked with the hostel once you arrive.
Day 3: Sunday: Tearful Goodbyes
Today, you are free to depart for home and catch transportation arrangements at any time. Sticking around? Stops include Szimpla farmers' market, Europe's largest Synagogue, and Budapest's trendy street art.
Day 1: Welcome to Budapest
On arrival at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, enjoy a complimentary transfer to your hotel at 10:00, 13:00 or 15:30. Meet your Travel Director and travel companions at 18:00. Tonight you are in for a treat with your Welcome Dinner. Dine in elegance as you savour hearty, Hungarian delicacies accompanied with specially selected wines.

Day 2: Budapest, Queen of the Danube Relaxed Start
Drive along the elegant boulevards en route to Heroes’ Square. Across the river in Buda, walk with your Local Expert along the medieval cobblestone streets of the Castle district to visit Matthias Church and admire sweeping views from the Fisherman’s Bastion over the exquisite Parliament building. At Matthias Church, you will either listen to an organ recital or visit Liszt Music Academy followed by an enchanting recital.Make your way to a traditional strudel house to see pastry chefs at work, as they prepare delicious sweet strudel by stretching the dough and readying fillings. Enjoy a delectable taste of this famous delicacy paired with a rich aromatic coffee.

Day 3: Free Time in Budapest Relaxed Start
The day is at leisure to immerse yourself in Budapest's history, culture and gastronomy. Perhaps, visit a thermal bath, spend time browsing the boutiques on Vaci Street or relax in a sidewalk café. This evening, enjoy a Dine-Around experience from your choice of specially selected restaurants.

Day 4: Along the Danube to Esztergom and on to Stately Vienna
Travel along the Danube to the picturesque city of Esztergom, home to the largest Catholic church in Hungary. Then, journey westward for a stop in the pretty town of Győr, located on the confluence of the Danube, Rába and Rábca rivers. Cross the border and continue to stately Vienna, known for its elegant coffee houses and lavish architecture steeped in history. In the evening, you are invited to a Dine-at-Home experience. Sit down to a hearty meal with a local family and learn about life in this enchanting city.

Day 5: Vienna and the Habsburgs
Much of Vienna’s present-day charm is due to the long reign of the Habsburgs. Join a Local Expert for a private visit of Maria Theresa’s Schönbrunn Palace and explore its formal gardens at your own pace.Explore Vienna with Insight Choice. Choose to visit a traditional Viennese café to enjoy local specialties of coffee and Sachertorte. Alternatively, join a unique MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience, take to the floor in a Viennese Waltz dance workshop and support the visually impaired community. Dancing in the dark, in a specially designed sensory studio, will be a unique experience for all your senses.Then ready your camera for a dazzling drive around the famous Ring Road. Day 6: Vienna at Leisure Relaxed Start
Discover the regal grandeur of Vienna as you explore at your own pace. Perhaps start at St. Stephen’s Cathedral - one of Europe’s great Gothic structures, or browse the shops of the bustling Kärntnerstrasse? You may wish to add another capital to your travels with a visit across the Slovakian border to Bratislava. Ask your Travel Director to recommend local attractions and restaurants as you appreciate the long summer evening in one of Europe's most elegant cities.

Day 7: Charming Český Krumlov and Golden Prague
Once over the Czech border, continue to picturesque Český Krumlov, where you'll start with a brief orientation tour of this fairy-tale town, straight out of the Middle Ages. Enjoy some free time to explore and appreciate views of the Vltava River. Wander through the cobblestone, traffic-free streets, past colourful houses that lead up to the finest castle in the land. In the afternoon, continue through the green Bohemian countryside to Prague. In the evening, savour a traditional meal at a local restaurant.

Day 8: Prague, City of a Hundred Spires
Explore Prague with Insight Choice. Choose to walk the courtyards of the Castle and visit the imposing St. Vitus Cathedral. Alternatively, join your Local Expert for a walk through the Jewish Quarter and learn about a different side of the history of Prague. The city is then yours to explore. Maybe take a river cruise through the heart of the city or walk in the footsteps of kings along the Royal Route? Czechs are passionate about their beer, so be sure to try the local pilsners together with hearty Czech cuisine.
