Description

Enjoy Yosemite in spring, one of its most spectacular seasons when snowmelt has its waterfalls at their most impressive and wildflowers are blanketing the meadows. This trip begins in the incomparable Yosemite Valley and follows the wild Merced River up into one of Yosemite’s most beautiful areas, Little Yosemite Valley. We’ll set up a basecamp here amid the soaring glaciated granite cliffs and the dominating south face of Half Dome to explore this remarkable region.

All aboard! Cruise from Miami to the beautiful Bahamas for a slice of paradise. Enjoy an abundance of onboard entertainment and some of the world’s most beautiful beaches on this 3-day adventure.
Itinerary: Little Yosemite Valley

Day 1

This Yosemite trip begins with rendezvous in Yosemite Valley on the patio of Half Dome Village (formerly Curry Village) in front of the Yosemite Mountain Shop at 6PM on Day 1. The Mountain shop is located on the street-facing side of the Half Dome Village Pavilion (closest to the parking lot). You will easily spot your guide waiting for you in a Wildland Trekking hat. We'll conduct an orientation meeting, after which we'll get settled in the Backpackers Camp a stone's throw away from majestic Tenaya Creek and under the spectacular domes and cliffs of Yosemite Valley. We'll enjoy dinner either at Half Dome Village or in camp.

Day 2

Hiking Mileage: 5 miles

Elevation Gain: 2600 feet

Elevation Loss: 500 feet

We begin our hike at the Happy Isles trailhead in the west end of Yosemite Valley along the banks of the Merced River. Quickly gaining elevation along the world famous John Muir Trail, we ascend out of the Valley toward our destination, Little Yosemite Valley. Surrounded by the huge granite cliffs of Glacier Point and the brooding Panorama Cliffs, our route soon crosses the raging snow-melt fed Merced River on a sturdy bridge. Here are our first views of Vernal Fall, one of Yosemite’s most iconic features. But views just get better as we catch glimpses of Half Dome and Liberty Cap as we continue upward through a thick Douglas fir forest. Continuing past Clark Point we lose a little elevation as we pass below Nevada Fall to a well-deserved rest at the top of Vernal Fall. One last push up switchbacks brings us to the west end of Little Yosemite Valley and the top of Nevada Fall with spectacular views back down the canyon. A flat final mile brings us to our campsite in the Little Yosemite Valley backpacker’s camp. After soaking our tired feet in the ice-cold Merced, we enjoy a hearty dinner and warm ourselves around the communal campfire under the brilliant star-filled sky of the Sierra Nevada.

Day 3

Hiking Mileage: 3-10 miles

Elevation Gain: varies

Elevation Loss: varies

As we wake to sound of Steller jays welcoming the day we contemplate the day’s numerous hiking possibilities. We could take a challenging hike to the top of the sub-dome at the base of the cables on Half Dome with vertigo inducing views down 4000 ft. into the granite Tenaya Canyon. Or, perhaps explore the numerous cascades and spectacular granite domes of the Merced River Canyon on a hike to beautiful and hidden Lost Valley. Whatever we choose, the opportunities for photography, nature study and enjoying one of Yosemite’s most beautiful regions abound. We’ll wrap up the day with a hearty dinner among the white firs of our campsite and then warm up around the campfire and recall our adventures of the day.

Day 4

Hiking Mileage: 5 miles

Elevation Gain: 500 feet

Elevation Loss: 2600 feet

Sadly, we enjoy our last breakfast in the Yosemite wilderness and pack up to return to the bustle of civilization. Our trail retraces our footsteps of the first day as it descends past the waterfalls and domes above the Merced River giving us a different perspective on these awe-inspiring landscapes. We’ll end our incredible adventure with an early afternoon lunch at the trailhead and celebrate our trip into one of the most beautiful landscapes on earth!
