What travelers are saying

"Our Azores trip was excellent except for a bit of rain :-); The volcano hikes were spectacular and the side trip notes were very helpful. Doing the volcano hikes was fantastic, especially being high enough to see the Atlantic Ocean to the south and the north, beautiful! We also enjoyed the beach walks and walking to town from our hotel, Santa Barbara Eco Hotel. We stayed at the Santa Barbara Eco Hotel which was excellent. The room, property, pool and spa and services were all excellent. We enjoyed meals everyday at their restaurant which where all excellent. A very relaxing and restful and comfortable hotel. The restaurant at the Santa Barbara Eco Hotel is excellent as is there sister property, The White House, were we enjoyed a spectacular sunset and dinner one night. Your selection of this company “Singular Resorts” is a very good choice. We have been using Intura Travel / Walk Inn Provence since 2014 and will use you again in the future. I have recommended you to family and friends and will continue to do so. You have excellent information and support for travelers. Fantastic trip to the Azores, it was a highlight of our vacation to Portugal."

What travelers are saying

"I always wanted to meet orangutans in the wild. Going with AW to Indonesia was the way to do it. We had great local guides, delicious food, and magical experiences. Everything was taken care of. The diverse group of women made the time even more enriching. I started as a solo traveler, but within a day I had 14 new friends. I can totally see traveling with AW again."

The communication with Judith regarding the planning and logistics of this gourmet tour in Spanish Basque Country were timely and smooth. The cooking classes and the day trips to Rioja and the French Basque Country were highlights of the trip! We will definitely work with Judith on more trips! Thank you Gourmet On Tour! What travelers are saying

"We had a great time on Sunday. Mike was a terrific guide, very informative and knowledgeable about the park, animals, plants and Alaska as a whole. Would recommend highly. Anyone who can navigate the mountain road, in a full size traditional school bus, as safely and comfortably as Mike, gets a 5 star rating and more. Thank you for such a memorable day."

What travelers are saying

"I’ve had two great adventures with this company. Both journeys offered a combo of moderate off the beaten path and times for luxury. Guides are highly knowledgeable and they offered us opportunity to go deep into history. I really appreciated some rugged moments. The South Africa trip was life changing for many reasons. They are great communicators and want to make sure you get answers and interests met. Both trips had very good hotels and food. Please try them if you travel to learn and participate in new cultures."

Small Ship Cruise

What travelers are saying

"Knowing what we know now, yes we would still book this cruise. That said, there were glitches. This was the first cruise of the season; some initial food inconsistencies got fixed quickly. The contracted pier locations at the beginning and end of the cruise were pretty bad, especially the one in Chicago (pick-up cabs had difficulty accessing the facility). We did not expect an "entertainment" cruise -- it shouldn't be. The focus should be on seeing and learning. Unfortunately the outsource for the local tours was quite spotty and it seemed like some of the bus drivers hadn't been instructed on routes. There were only two local experts giving talks on the ship; we expected more. The locations themselves were very interesting and worth it all. The ship was pleasant, cabins comfortable and adequate. Food was very good and quite varied, breakfast had a buffet as well as a cooked to order option. However, the option outside of the main dining room (the Grill on topside) was mostly a repeat of main. The Grill should offer sandwich fixings and more salad (lighter stuff) at lunch rather than the same menu as below. The bar was well provisioned. We appreciated the espresso machine with cookies in the lounge (minor complaint: coffee in the restaurant was pretty wimpy). The crew was excellent and service was stellar! We stayed extra days on either end of the trip (Toronto and Chicago), and this should be offered as an option. If the glitches get worked out, this will be a 4-5 star cruise."

North America Tour Selection Trips

  • To keep your tour manageable, think regionally: the Northwestern or Southwestern U.S., the Canadian Maritimes, Canadian Rockies, etc.
  • U.S. national parks are some of the finest in the world and a good place to keep tour prices down, especially if you like camping.
  • While most of its citizens live near the U.S. border, Canada is the world’s second largest country, with vast wilderness, mountain and coastal areas awaiting exploration.
  • Greenland, one of the least visited islands in the world, is part of North America, too – and has a fascinating Arctic culture and landscape.
  • Mexico is far more diverse than you might imagine: think Mayan culture vs. modern-day Mexico City, Oaxacan marketplaces vs. Cancun party scene.

Additional details

What Countries are in North America?

North America consists of Canada, Mexico, and the United States (including the Hawaiian Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

What is the best time to visit North America?

The best time to visit North America will vary based on destination.

Travelers booking a trip to Alaska or northern Canada may want to avoid the cold, dark winters as most guided tours only operate in the warmer months and transportation may be difficult to find. If you are hoping to see the Northern Lights, the “shoulder seasons” of late fall and early spring may be your best bet; the skies will be dark enough to see the beauty of the lights, but the climate won’t be as harsh.

The best time to visit Mexico is the dry season between December and April. Temperatures are warm enough during this time to enjoy the beach and the sun while avoiding the rainy season of late summer to early fall. Keep in mind that prices peak around the holiday season.

The southern and eastern regions of the United States can get extremely hot and humid in the summer and freezing in the winter-- avoid weather extremes by visiting in the fall or spring. The Pacific Northwest tends to be warmest and driest during the summer and fall, but don’t be surprised if you encounter rainy skies at any time of year.

Skiers and snowboarders will naturally want to head to the mountains during winter or early spring when there is enough snow on the peaks. Hikers can avoid snow-covered or muddy trails during winter by visiting in the late summer or fall.

Safety tips for traveling in North America

North America is generally considered a safe place to travel, although there is crime in the big cities and in some areas of Mexico. Of course, it is important to use common sense and be aware of your surroundings when traveling to any new place.

Safety tips for traveling in North America:

  • Watch out for pickpockets. Keep your phone, wallet, and other valuables close and out of sight.
  • Don’t carry large sums of cash.
  • Use certified taxicab companies to avoid being ripped off.
  • Ask your tour guide or hotel staff about areas to avoid.
  • When around wildlife, never get too close. Most national and state parks provide instructions online or at visitor centers on what to do if you encounter wildlife.
  • If you will be driving a car in an unfamiliar country, get familiar with the driving laws and customs of the country to avoid accidents and traffic stops.
  • When traveling alone, give a friend or family member a copy of your itinerary and don’t mention to any strangers that you are alone.
