Day 1 New Delhi

Namaste! Begin your Indian adventure in one of the oldest cities in the world, Delhi, a suprising city of magic and mayhem. There’s a Welcome Meeting today at 1pm. You can arrive any time beforehand as there are no activities planned until then. India's capital is an ...

Day 2 Agra

Rise early to catch the morning sun and a train to Agra (approximately three hours). The city once alternated with Delhi as the capital of the Moghul Empire, and it still grips to its glory days linked with the most famous of India’s rulers. On arrival, take some time...

Day 3 Taj Mahal

This is one very early morning start that will be worth the effort. Get up before the sun to see it rise over the Taj Mahal. Watch the iconic building bathed in early morning light. Many people believe it to be the most perfectly proportioned building ever constructed...

Day 4 Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambhore National Park is one of the premier national parks of India – a place teeming with wildlife where nature has reclaimed ancient fortresses and temples. You’ll make a couple of game drives during your stay here, with hopes of getting a sighting of the majes...

Day 5 Jaipur

Enjoy a leisurely start to the day before heading northwest to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan (approximately 2 hours). Surrounded by a wall dripping in an earthy red colour in the style of the Mughal sandstone cities. Walk through the Pink City’s streets, busy with...

Day 6 Jaipur

Visit the sprawling City Palace, once home to the Maharaja, an amazing complex filled with fascinating museums and guards whose moustaches are almost as impressive as the building itself. Continue on to the Jantar Mantar observatory and the five-storied Hawa Mahal, or...

Day 7 Kochi

After the last few days of activity, today is a travel day. Say 'goodbye' to the North and jump on a plane to the more relaxing South. Your destination is Kochi, a once important spice-trading centre that’s split between the mainland and a group of islands just off th...

Day 8 Kochi

Take in some of the city’s most interesting sights today on an orientation tour. Hop on a local ferry to Mattancherry and drop by the 16th Century Dutch Palace. It was actually built by the Portuguese, but the Dutch took it over, improved on it, and then presented it ...

Day 9 Periyar National Park

From the swaying palm trees, lush rice paddies and winding waterways of the Kerala area, head inland to the thick jungle and spice plantations of Thekkady (approximately four hours). Take some free time to relax and settle into the hotel before exploring the local are...

Day 10 Periyar National Park

Venture into the acclaimed Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary for a guided nature walk, with hopes to encounter the park’s rich variety of wildlife. Encounters with animals in the wild are never guaranteed, and this is more of a jungle walk than an animal spotting tour, but l...

Day 11 Malabar Backwaters

Swap jungles for backwaters, leaving Periyar and heading back west to discover sleepy Alappuzha (approximately three hours). Once a significant trading port, the town is now famed for the long ‘snake boat’ races that take place in August every year. Here board a typic...

Day 12 Kovalam

Travel down the west coast of the continent to end the trip with a relaxing slice of royally sanctioned paradise. Head to Kovalam via Kerala’s capital, Trivandrum (approximately four hours). Move from sun lounger, to beach, to hotel pool, and then back again, perhaps squeezing in a traditional ayurvedic massage.

Day 13 Kovalam

Take this final free day to do as you’d like. If you’re keen to explore, there’s plenty to do in and around this coconut tree oasis. Visit the old signalling station of Anchuthengu Fort or the 16th-century Koyikkal Palace, while the nearby town of Vinhinjam has a wide...

Day 14 Kovalam

This India Family Holiday comes to an end today, and you are free to leave your accommodation anytime after breakfast. For those booked on flight inclusive packages, you will be transferred back to the airport for your onward flight home.

The Intrepid Travel Experience

If you’re looking for adventure, you’ve come to the right place. For the past 25 years, we’ve been taking small groups of travelers on unforgettable trips around the world. What makes them unforgettable? Take a look for yourself and discover the Intrepid experience.

Our travelers have three styles of tour to choose from: Basix, Original and Comfort. Each has a different level of inclusions and accommodation, but all have unforgettable real life experiences as part of the package. Travellers can also choose themed trips, such as Family, Sailing or Food, to suit their interests.

Our group size has an average of just ten travellers, which allows us to get off the beaten track, use local accommodation and transport, and really get to know the culture. It also ensures we are contributing to the local economy; by choosing local suppliers we were able to keep AUD 60 million in local economies in 2012. We’re also working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and were the first in our sector to introduce carbon offset trips. This, along with our many corporate sustainability activities, has meant we’re one of the travel industry’s leaders in responsible travel.

Why Intrepid?

  •   Small groups - average of 10 people per trip
  •   Sustainability - pioneers for the industry
  •   Local leaders - authentic perspectives
  •   Local transport - get close and personal
  •   Local accommodation - experience real living
  •   Intrepid travelers - like-minded companions

History

Intrepid Travel has come a long way since its beginnings in 1989. From two university friends, a typewriter and a kitchen desk, it is now a proud member of The Intrepid Group, taking over 100,000 travelers every year.

Intrepid Travel is part of The Intrepid Group of companies, alongside leading small group adventure companies Peregrine, Urban Adventures and PEAK DMC.

Despite growing into a global business with over 1,000 staff based all over the world and over 800 different trips across every continent, we’ve remained devoted to the same grassroots values and responsible travel philosophies that we had at the very beginning.

Values

On every trip we operate and in every interaction we have with a client, supplier or local, we live our core values everyday:

  • Integrity – Doing the right thing
  • Responsible – Think global, act local
  • Growth – Stakeholders in our own success
  • Innovation – Thriving on new ideas and embracing change
  • Fun – It’s engrained into who we are and what we do
  • Passion – We are inspired by the work we do and the trips we offer

Why we love this operator
They’re very committed to sustainable and responsible tourism and contribute to important initiatives like climate action.
What they’re known for
Small group tours for active and adventurous travelers at a range of different price points and service levels.

Guides
All Intrepid Family trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to assist your family take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for fun things to do and see- for both kids and parents, recommend great local eating venues that will even get the kids trying new things, and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. Our leaders are not babysitters on this trip - we leave that to you (the experts), but they will make sure that group members of all ages are able to explore their destination safely and with as much fun as possible. Our group leaders are not responsible for looking after children at any time and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times throughout this itinerary.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. When travelling on a trip, you won't be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance and the insurance company's 24 hour emergency contact number has been seen by your leader. If you have credit card insurance your group leader will require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number and emergency contact number rather than the bank's name and credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details prior to arriving in-country. http://www.intrepidtravel.com/insurance.php
