Itinerary
Welcome to Mexico City, a buzzing capital replete with fine museums, awesome eateries and elegant architecture. Spend the day exploring the city streets or perhaps head to the Xochimilco gardens for a trajinera ride through the canals. When evening falls, why not head out with the group for a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine and mariachi.
The morning kicks off with a visit to the fascinating Anahuacalli Musuem in the leafy suburb of Coyoacan, before free time for lunch at the local market. Later, enjoy a guided tour of Frida Kahlo's birthplace which is now a museum dedicated to her life as a renowned artist.
Embark on a city orientation walk that takes in the Day of the Dead alters on display in the Zocalo. Journey out to Xochimilco and go for a wander around the fascinatingly eerie Isla de la Munecas, an island littered with hundreds of tattered dolls in memory of a young girl who lost her life there. Back in Mexico City, join in on one of the lively Day of the Dead street parties taking place.
Enjoy a guided tour of Tepoztlan, an ancient Aztec city of palpable indigenous significance. Witness, and perhaps join in with, some of the traditional activities that go in to preparing for the Day of the Dead ceremony. Stop in at the town of Mixquic, where particularly colourful celebrations take place as local families decorate the tombs of deceased family members.

We’re also working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and were the first in our sector to introduce carbon offset trips. While travelling with us you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. Your group leader will be able to suggest restaurants to try during your trip. On our camping trips we often cook the region's specialities so you don't miss out. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.

Our Original style trips have a great balance of included activities with your group and free time to explore independently. Where we stay ensures we keep our travellers firmly entrenched in a region’s people and culture, and provides them with unique local experiences that benefits the community too. In most locations we stay in simple tourist-class hotels (i.e. 2-3 stars), plus on many trips you'll also get to experience a night with a local family on a homestay or something a little different like a Bedouin camp in the Sahara. Original style trips come with all manner of transport modes and use a mixture of local and private transport. You might find yourself sailing in a dhow in Zanzibar, jumping on a rickshaw in Sri Lanka or sailing on a yacht through the Galapagos. No matter the mode, it's all about minimising our environmental impact and making getting around part of the adventure.
