Highlights

    • The Rogue River is nothing like anything else in the United States. Here, you can raft whitewater rapids, paint a wilderness river, and stay in a comfortable lodge each evening! ROW Adventures is one of few outfitters able to provide these Rogue River lodge-based trips due to our relationships with the exclusive lodges along the Rogue River.
    • The Rogue River is one of the most famous rivers in the American West and, for good reason. Flowing from Oregon’s Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, our Rogue River rafting/painting trips take place on the most scenic section flowing through the heart of the Rogue River Wilderness. Fun, intermediate rapids, warm water and a green-forested canyon make the Rogue River the perfect natural setting for artists. ROW Adventures’ Rogue River plein-aire trips are particularly unique because each night you stay at a remote riverside lodge where you enjoy your own room with comfortable beds and private bathroom.
    • During the day, you raft through the Rogue River's splashy rapids and, in the quiet pools between, watch for deer, black bear, river otters and a variety of birds that make this canyon their home. Like all great plein-aire adventure trips, there's plenty of variety along the way including walks to historic homesteads and superb hiking trails. Few rivers offer such a magical blend of inspiration suitable for all skill levels.

What's this trip about?

This trip has been discontinued. Instead see   North American National Parks and Eclipse Best of America Central America Uncovered   En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air," and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. As an artist, you continually seek new inspiration. Whether it is a new significant place, culture, people, or feeling, these all help you to create and grow as an artist. Have you ever wanted to paint something different than your fellow artist? Do you ever wish you could be in a location that has yet to be painted live? Of course! ROW Adventures will take you there. Imagine yourself on the bank of a wild and scenic river corridor. You have just spent the last four hours rafting through some of the most beautiful and majestic places you have ever seen. Your knowledgable and experienced guides have set the adventurous, creative, and lively tone, while you are still awe-struck by this place. The sounds of rushing water and the fragrance of warm grass and clean air soothe your soul. Then your guide points out a black bear at the river's edge. She is skittish and risks being seen to stay a moment longer and snatch a wild salmon to feed her hungry, eager cubs. The bear has broken your concentration but you immerse yourself again, and put the finishing brushstrokes on what you believe to be your most satisfying and moving work. Your hosts, James Sampsel and David Kinker, show you five days of not only plein-aire techniques, but of fearlessness and spiritual connections among the artist, their medium and mother nature. Both leaders are seasoned professional guides and award-winning, notable artists, who facilitate newfound awareness of the visual world and all its interconnections.

Connecting people to culture, wildlife, and nature

If there is water, there is ROW Adventures! While we started out as a Northwest whitewater rafting company in 1979, we have since expanded our reach to include tours on five continents and over 25 countries. Our ultimate focus is providing life-enriching journeys around the world that not only benefit you, but also our guides, and the people and places we visit. Rated by National Geographic Adventure as one of the “Best Adventure Travel Companies on Earth,” and voted “World’s Best Tour Operator” by Travel & Leisure magazine readers, we continue to pioneer new trips and ways of adventuring in both popular and remote places of the world.

ROW offers a wide variety of trips that cater to many different activities - rafting, kayaking, hiking, biking, fishing, multisport, etc. – interests – family-focused vacations, lodge-based tours, wildlife viewing, custom itineraries – and locations – camping in the Galapagos Islands, hiking in Machu Picchu, ecolodges in the Amazon, safaris in Africa, yachting in Europe, wildlife viewing in Antarctica, sea kayaking in Baja, kayaking with orcas in British Columbia, and more.

At our core, we are all about “sharing nature, enriching lives.” We strives to connect you to the places we visit in a meaningful and personally relevant way, inspiring you to be a part of the culture and lifestyle, and creating a safe-space for you to grow and gain new insight through your travel experiences.

The driving force behind our company is a team of people passionate about travel and customer service. Setting the pace and tone are the original ROW owners and founders Peter Grubb and his life partner Betsy Bowen. With our superlative team who have an average of eight years of guiding experience, many with extensive wilderness medical training, and natural and cultural history interpretation training in order to share a deeper understanding and appreciation for the incredible places you visit, we continue to set the high watermark in adventure and guest service.

ROW has a high guide-to-guest ratio, allowing our guides to be more involved with you – joining in on meals, ensuring your comfort, answering questions, telling stories, entertaining, and sharing in on the fun and adventure. And not only are our guides there to lead the adventure, they also do all of the heavy lifting, food preparation, gear transfers, camp setup, and more, so that you can focus on your vacation.

Our guides prepare each meal for you using fresh, healthy ingredients, and there is beer and wine to boot. Luxury camping, with spacious tents, dining tables, chairs and sun showers, provides a high level of comfort even when you’re exploring remote wilderness areas. ROW provides all camping gear including tents, sleeping bags, and thick foam mattresses, and watercraft for our trips; you just need to bring clothes, yourself, and enjoy being on your adventure! And of course, we are passionately dedicated to “Leave No Trace” camping ethics and supporting a variety of conservation efforts around the world.

We have it all covered, and we are here to provide you with the best travel experience out there. But don’t take our word for it; check out our reviews, join us for an adventure, and go home with incredible experiences and lifelong memories!
