Things to do in Australia - Expert’s guide

With six vastly different states, Australia will ignite every traveler's wanderlust. Just make sure you don't get too worn out trying to cram everything in! Following are a few experiences you must enjoy on your trip to Australia.

  • Swim the Great Barrier Reef: The Great Barrier Reef has been an iconic attraction for the country for decades. The reef is a biodiversity haven for coral and sea life. You'll be able to swim closely with sea turtles and angelfish that call this place home and capture some fantastic photos at the same time.
  • Drive the Great Ocean Road: The Great Ocean Road begins in Melbourne and takes you through Otway National Park and the famous natural formation of the 12 Apostles across Australia's southeastern point.
  • Cruise the Kimberly: You can choose from many overland tours of the Kimberly, but another great way to see this untouched area is by cruise. A Kimberly cruise takes you through the teal waters, where you can see sandy cliff faces and waterfalls from your small cruise ship.
  • Go Skiing: Australia is more than just the turf of surfers and volleyball players. The country has several mountains, the most famous of which is the Great Dividing Range, where you can hike, ski, or snowboard to your heart's content.

Contrasts of Australia by AAT Kings
Contrasts of Australia
Contrasts of Australia tour included Melbourne, Cairns and Sydney. Accomodations were good at all except the rooms in Sydney were much smaller. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef was amazing! We purchased the additional SkyRail excursion in Cairns and enjoyed both the shopping and restaurants the small village of Kuranda. We also purchased the Sydney bridge climb adventure which was great! The guide made it thoroughly enjoyable.
Our tour director for the entire tour, Nellie Sullivan, was extremely helpful and friendly. She made sure everyone was experiencing what they hoped for.

Southern Capitals City Meets Bush
An interesting trip, we enjoyed the tour around the Parliamentary Buildings in Canberra. Would have been great to have visited the Anzac museum though. We loved the town of Beechworth as it was so quaint and the history of Ned Kelly very interesting. We could have listened to Lorraine at the pub for longer! A wonderful storyteller. Glenrowan was a great stop too. Melbourne was a wonderful city experience to end it with.

Outback Highlights by AAT Kings
Outback Highlights Superior
The staff onsite at Ayers Rock Resort were all great, the guides were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The trips were designed to give us an all round experience of Uluru, and the accommodation was very good. The Kings Canyon day trip is excellent if you do the rim walk, the easier walk option is very short and you will have to wait for the rim walkers to return. All in all, we found the trip was a great way to get to know this special place.
