Affordable Short camping safaris Tanzania starts in Arusha at around 08:00 to 8:30 & drive across Arusha city with a chance of any last minutes parches before heading to Lake Manyara National Park. |
Day 1: Arusha - Northern Serengeti
Accommodation: Lamai Serengeti
Morning flight from Arusha to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti. Met by your Nomad car and guide for a short game drive to Lamai - almost invisible from the plains but commanding endless views across this beautiful landscape. Settle into your room before a delious lunch in the open dining room. A gentle afternoon game drive before returning to camp in time for a hot shower and ice cold gin and tonic.
Day 2: Northern Serengeti
Accommodation: Lamai Serengeti
After an early breakfast, head out with your Nomad guide to make the most of the day. At this time of the year, there's a strong possibility that the migration is in the area so you'll be out in search of the herds. Whether they are peacefully spread out in their thousands across the plains or gathering in a frenzy on the Mara River banks, it's always an unforgettable spectacle. Return for lunch in camp followed by a siesta and a swim to recharge batteries for an afternoon walk and sundowner.
Day 3: Northern Serengeti
Dominated by the Mara River, groaning with crocs and hippos, this area is great for elephant, big herds buffalo, lion, cheetah as well as leopard in the many kopjes that make this landscape so distinctive. Also look out for small Oribi which thrives in this area, but is otherwise extremely scarce in northern Tanzania generally.
Day 4: Serengeti – Selous
Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous
Catch the morning flight from here via Arusha, to the Selous landing at our Kiba airstrip in the afternoon (stops at other airstrips along the way are expected). Settle in to your open-fronted room on the banks of the Rufiji River.
Take an early evening trip down the Rufiji River, slowly floating downstream with a cold beer, watching the river life go by.
Day 5: Selous Game Reserve
Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous
Head out in the cool of the early morning and take a walk along the riverine forest; have a cook-out breakfast en route. After lunch we'd suggest a short game drive out towards the hide, where you can hang out and watch the game undisturbed.
Day 6: Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast in camp, take a game drive further out into the reserve, perhaps pausing for a picnic in one of our favourite spots. Head back to camp in the afternoon for a siest and a swim before a sundowner on the deck.
Day 7: Selous Game Reserve
Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous
An early start with tea served in your room, before hopping on a boat for a zip up the river to Stiegler's Gorge. As the scenery changes dramatically, you find a sand bar in the river to enjoy a picnic breakfast, eyes trained on the towering forested walls of the gorge. Dip a rod in the water for a bream or tigerfish and relax with the sounds of the river around you. A gentle drift back to the camp for lunch.
Day 8: Selous - Dar es Salaam
A gentle wake up this morning with the sun over the river. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a last dip in the pool before heading for a short game drive to the airstip to catch your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam and home.
