Shogun Trail

The guide and itinerary were fantastic. Incredible to get off the beaten path and see rural Japan.

This trip was a wonderfully varied introduction to Japan. Many highlights including the temples and gardens in Kyoto, seeing the cherry blossom in Tokyo, travelling on the bullet trains, a wonderfully clear view of Mount Fuji, travelling off the beaten track in the beautiful scenery of Hirado. Our tour leader Giulia was outstanding in every respect.

This was a great introduction to Japan, with a wide variety of sights and locations. I particularly enjoyed going more off the beaten track when we visited Hirado and Ikitsuki islands in the south. A very different experience from the busy cities. Our guide, Karique, was great - very knowledgeable and lots of fun!

Really enjoyed the trip to Japan - somewhere I have wanted to visit for years - and it really didn't disappoint. Accommodation was good overall but the best was the stay in Hakone. 
Itinerary was busy but varied - travelling around was easy - especially with such a knowledgable tour leader. Our tour leader was exceptional. We were lucky to have a small group but Zi went out of her way to make sure we had the best experience, often taking us to places which were slightly off the beaten track, and making sure we saw as much as possible. 
A really enjoyable tour - I will be going back and have already recommended this tour to friends.

The shogun trail was an excellent trip. The itinerary varied from busy Tokyo to quiet rural Hirado and showed us the range of the diversity that is Japan. The guide, Zilola, was enthusiastic, informative and gave us a good insight into understanding Japan. She went beyond what the trip notes suggested and took us to interesting places in addition to the itinerary. I thoroughly recommend this trip.

Overall, The Shogun Trail tour was excellent, contrasting the busy cities with the more rural Japan in the Hirado area. We used a variety of transport including, boat, bullet train, trams and local buses as well as private buses. It allowed us to experience a wide variety of Japanese culture.
Our tour leader, Karique, was fantastic and went above and beyond the call of duty when arranging things for our group. He was friendly and knowledgeable about all things Japanese - he felt more like a friend than a tour leader!
The accommodation on the tour was generally ok - the hotel rooms were very small with little or no storage, which meant that we had to live out of our suitcases for virtually the whole trip. This may be just how Japanese hotel rooms are though! The ryokan in Hakone was great - a real highlight of the tour, and the Japanese owners there were lovely!

The Shogun trip is absolutely fantastic. The itinerary surpassed my (high) expectations, the experience was totally immersive - food, culture, history and environment. 
Our leader Zilola was superb, a great blend of leading but also enabling some self direction and “free time”. 
Spending time in the south of Japan, was particularly wonderful, no other tourists and a totally different experience to the big cities. 
To get the best experience you need to be physically fit, open minded to all opportunities and prepared to embrace all aspects of this wonderful trip in beautiful Japan
