Enjoy the ultimate trekking in Iceland experience together with your family on a six day guided tour from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk on the world renowned Laugavegur trail. Next, you hike the Fimmvörðuháls trail taking you up to the Fimmvörðuháls Pass between two towering volcano mountain glaciers, Eyjafjalljökull and Mýrdalsjökull. These treks are each listed by National Geographic in their world top 20 trails. This tour provides an absolutely ultimate Iceland trekking experience because you get to do both.
This really is a fun and exciting adventure to treasure from start to finish. You will embark upon a journey through magical geothermal areas, impossibly colorful rhyolite mountains, volcanoes, new lava craters (2010) and glimmering white glaciers. The greatest jewel in this glittering crown? You get to explore the very best of Icelandic nature and to make magical memories with your family. Each one of you will take home a backpack filled with precious moments and incredible highlights!
During the final two days you will camp in the valley of Þórsmörk (Thorsmork), perfect to explore the surrounding volcanoes and glaciers. Our hike will take you up to the high Fimmvörðuháls Pass where the first eruption of 2010 happened. It was this eruption which produced the two new craters, Magni and Móði. They are named after sons of the Norse Thunder God, Þór. Magni means strong and Móði means brave. We will also pass by the famous (some say infamous) volcano mountain glacier, Eyjafjallajökull – the 2010 eruption halted air traffic and dominated world news for a few months.
Your footsteps will take you ever further away from the buzz of the city as you step into the complete serenity of the amazingly peaceful Icelandic nature, mesmerizing scene after mesmerizing scene will open out before your eyes.
This six-day family trekking tour is a supported trek so your main luggage will be transported between camping places. You just carry a day bag. Particularly mindful of the younger children in the party a sturdy 4 x 4 Jeep is used to cross the larger rivers.
Your professional guide organizes everything and prepares the meals but assistance from participants is warmly welcomed. This tour gives a great opportunity to make friends with hiking families from around the world.
