Itinerary

Travel Map

Day 1

Fly direct to Calgary, home to the famous 'Stampede', and continue on into the majestic Rockies, to Banff, for a two-night stay.

Day 2

Join the optional guided tour this morning and explore Banff, undisputed 'capital' of the Rockies. Take in Surprise Corner for exquisite views of the iconic Banff Springs Hotel and venture to the summit of Sulphur Mountain by cable car. In the afternoon, perhaps join our exhilarating helicopter flight over the mountains.

Day 3

Today we'll call at beautiful Lake Louise, where turquoise waters - frozen for much of the year - are set against the awesome backdrop of the Victoria Glacier. We'll then travel the renowned Icefields Parkway - a spectacular journey through the heart of the Rockies - before continuing to Jasper, in scenic Jasper National Park.

Day 4

Your wonderful journey west continues, past majestic Mount Robson - the highest point in the Rockies - to the mountain resort of Sun Peaks and another overnight stay.

Day 5

Descending through the Coastal Ranges towards the Pacific and the beautiful city of Vancouver, board your ship for a late afternoon sailing into the Inside Passage and the wilderness State of Alaska, and settle into your cabin - your home for the next seven nights.

Day 6

As we cruise north, through the scenic Inside Passage, you can relax and enjoy the ship's vast range of facilities and dining opportunities.

Day 7

Today we'll make an afternoon and evening call at the Alaskan capital, Juneau, in its awe-inspiring setting at the foot of the magnificent mountains from which the immense Mendenhall Glacier flows. Optional shore excursions today will include tours and exhilarating activities such as kayaking or dogsledding.

Day 8

Enjoy a full day at Skagway, northernmost point of the cruise and our last stop before the Yukon. Part of the setting for Jack London's iconic book 'The Call of the Wild', Skagway is still a pioneering town of honky-tonk saloons and Klondike memorabilia.

Day 9

Today we'll take a breathtaking cruise into Glacier Bay. Marvel at the ever-changing glacial seascape of this renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site where the silence is punctuated by the thunderous sound of ice splitting and crashing, in great chunks, into the water.

Day 10

The colourful town of Ketchikan, its wooden houses built over the water, is our last port of call. You will have the opportunity to join the optional shore excursion to the remote Misty Fjords National Monument, a vast wilderness reserve where some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery can be found.

Day 11

Enjoy a last day at sea as we cruise back south along the Inside Passage and the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Day 12

Arrive early in the delightful coastal city of Vancouver and transfer to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

Day 13

On today's optional guided tour of Vancouver you'll discover restored Gastown, the kaleidoscopic thoroughfares of Chinatown, and the glass and steel wonders of the Burrard Inlet waterfront. You'll also be able to explore the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and ascend Grouse Mountain by cable car for the spectacular views.

Day 14

Join an optional tour, sailing through the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island where you'll visit Victoria, the charming, colonial Provincial capital set around the beautiful Inner Harbour, as well as the world-famous Butchart Gardens.

Day 15

Spend a free morning exploring or perhaps searching out last-minute souvenirs, before transferring to the airport for your overnight flight home.

Day 16

Arrive back in the UK after a wonderful holiday.

Our ABTA and ATOL bonds mean that, when you book a Newmarket holiday, you can be 100 per cent sure that your money is safe. From the moment our Holiday Specialists begin planning your tours until well after you've returned from holiday, we make you - the customer - our number one priority.

The Newmarket Group

Newmarket Holidays, which was founded in 1983, is part of The Newmarket Group, one of the UK's largest independently owned specialist tour operators, and looks after the arrangements of tens of thousands of clients each year, to a wide range of destinations throughout the UK, across Europe and beyond. All Newmarket's departures originate in the UK.

During the three decades in which Newmarket has traded, the company has built an enviable reputation for tremendous value for money and the highest standards of customer care, establishing itself as the leading supplier of 'Reader Holidays' to the UK newspaper industry and a major provider of group travel arrangements for a large number of associations, societies and affiliated parties, to whom our Group Travel Specialists offer a dedicated service and additional travel organiser benefits.

The company has garnered a number of industry awards over the past decades, including two successive 'Best Tour Operator' (of coach holidays and to Italy) accolades at the prestigious 2011 and 2012 British Travel Awards of which we are especially proud. We are also honoured and privileged to partner the Royal British Legion in the Remembrance Travel programme of commemorative escorted tours.

Two ABTA-bonded operating companies make up the Group. Newmarket Promotions looks after all coach-inclusive and 'Make-Your-Own-Way' breaks and tours, while Newmarket Air Holidays operates all air-inclusive arrangements, and holds an ATOL licence, 2325. All monies are perfectly safe when you travel with Newmarket.

Before you travel, we try our best to answer all the questions you might have about your planned break or tour, be it via this website or when you contact our friendly, knowledgeable Travel Consultants. We'll send you comprehensive Joining Instructions to enable you to be fully prepared, wherever you're joining us, and no matter how short the trip.

During your holiday or break is when you'll really feel the Newmarket Difference, in the quality of the accommodation, the well-planned day-to-day arrangements, and especially as you meet your friendly, professional Tour Manager. They'll be on hand to answer any questions you may have, to point you in the right direction and to bring to life the places that you visit. We want you to enjoy your time with us, and our Tour Managers are there to ensure that you do - time and time again.

Each hotel has a restaurant, a bar and a sauna, and the guest rooms have private facilities, telephones, coffee-making facilities and TV. Most also have fridges. Ship & cabin information
Verandah Suites
Your Alaskan Cruise Ship (nights 5-11) Your beautiful cruise ship offers a memorable taste of 'life on the ocean waves'. Sailing with nearly one crewmember to every two guests, the ship features spacious wraparound teak decks, panoramic views, abundant spacious private verandas and large staterooms. Life on Board Dine in the beautiful Rotterdam Dining Room, the intimate Pinnacle Grill and the Lido Restaurant or simply watch them cook at the Culinary Arts Center, a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen offering interactive gourmet cooking lessons. Stop in the coffee house, pamper yourself at the Spa and Salon, and enjoy nightly entertainment in the large show lounge, or an aperitif or night-cap in the bar.
Cabin Information Your holiday price includes a comfortable, thoughtfully furnished two-berth inside cabin (grade L) with a TV, shower and WC. Outside Staterooms As you'll be cruising in Alaska where the view is so much a part of your holiday, we strongly advise you to take advantage of an outside stateroom with a view. These cabins have panoramic windows, giving you the chance to relax in privacy and watch the stunning scenery go by. Facilities are similar to inside cabins but most have baths. Verandah Suites Verandah Suites offer you the chance to watch the scenery go by from your own private balcony. Each suite also has a whirlpool bath and a shower, a separate seating area, a mini-bar, a refrigerator, and floor-to-ceiling windows leading to your own private verandah. (The higher prices of certain suites will be reflected in better positions on the ship, usually on higher decks.) In all cabin types, your cabin steward will look after you during the cruise, ensuring that towels and bedding are refreshed as necessary. Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in a conveniently located, alternative hotel of a similar standard.

Additional Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately 90 minutes.

Changes to your itinerary

Please note that the itinerary is reversed for the departure on 17th September 2016, starting in Vancouver and ending in Calgary. It will depart from London Heathrow, instead of from London Gatwick, and fly with Air Canada.

On your flight

All outbound flights depart and arrive on the same day. All return flights leave in the evening and land in the UK the next day. On-board meals will usually include lunch and a snack on outward flights, and dinner and breakfast on flight home. Soft drinks are complimentary, but some airlines will charge for alcoholic drinks.

Luggage allowance

You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.

Shore excursions

Shore excursions during the cruise can be booked on board the ship.

Tipping

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. Customary gratuity to a coach driver or tour manager is about $5 USD per person per day; in a taxi or a restaurant leave 12-15 per cent of the bill and, in the bar, leave a dollar or so per drink. Gratuities on board Holland America Line ships are not included in your holiday price, and are automatically charged at a cost of $11.50 per person per day.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Changes to your hotels

Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.

Hotel rooms

Standard hotel rooms in North America will contain one or two double- or queen-sized beds, and it is not possible to add extra beds to the room. Parties consisting of more than two travellers, but who have only booked one room, will be expected to make use of the two beds provided. If this is a concern, you may wish to consider booking more than one room for your group.
