This is a leadership course designed for ages 18 and Up
- Build core skills: Learn and practice wilderness, teamwork and leadership skills. Form a crew that supports and encourages one another, and in the thick of challenges, discover there is more in you than you know.
- Practice Outward Bound values: Learn to incorporate Outward Bound values into everyday life by pushing your own limits and seeking challenge as an opportunity for personal growth.
- Demonstrate mastery: As the course nears the end, take on more leadership and decision-making responsibilities. Work together to apply new skills and achieve team goals during this final phase of the expedition.
- What you’ll learn: Return home a stronger, more resilient individual. Discover increased self-confidence, improved leadership, and a desire to make a difference.

The total tour cost includes the tour price (regular or promotional) and the compulsory local payment. The promotional price is subject to change. The compulsory local payment will be paid when you join the trip. All prices are based on double, twin or triple share occupancy. Solo passengers will be accommodated in a double, twin or triple room according to availability with a passenger(s) of the same gender. Single supplement only needs to be paid if the passenger does not want to share and requests their own room. Discounts can only be applied at the time of booking and cannot be added at a later date, regardless of any changes made to the original booking.

Our founder’s goal 75 years ago was to integrate intensive experience and skill-building into the fabric of education. His approach to teaching and learning was centered on the belief that education should place equal emphasis on development of character and the intellect.
Although today’s Outward Bound expeditions have adapted to the needs of our modern society, our programs are designed true to our founders original beliefs and goal: to prepare students of all ages and circumstances with the strength of character and determination they need to thrive – in the classroom, in the workplace, in the family and in the world.

What sets Outward Bound apart from many of the other organizations that provide wilderness expeditions and training is that we bring an equally high level of emphasis and performance to teaching to the outcomes of character, leadership and service. Outward Bound, founded by educator Kurt Hahn, is a non-profit educational organization that serves people of all ages and backgrounds through challenging learning expeditions that inspire strength of character, leadership and service to others, both in and out of the classroom.

Outcomes
Outward Bound courses vary in length from 4 to 85 days. On shorter courses, participants will receive an intro to leadership skills, strength of character and a desire to serve. With longer courses, the same outcomes and benefits are achieved with the ability to reach a more profound level of mastery as there are more opportunities develop technical skills, receive and implement feedback and further personal development.
Mountaineering
Our Mountaineering courses focus on teaching students the skills to climb technical peaks that require harnesses, ropes, and ice axes to successfully summit. Instructors train students to use all equipment necessary for technical mountaineering. During this course, students can expect to travel on and off trail over wooded and alpine terrain that can be rough, demanding, steep and exposed and may at times require the use of ropes and ice axes to traverse a slope or ascend a pass.
Peak Attempt:
The expedition includes at least one peak ascent attempt. Peak attempts, with or without the use of ropes and technical gear, are major enterprises and typically require early morning starts and take all day to complete. Weather or other factors including group dynamics and physical ability may preclude even an attempt to ascend a peak.
Final Expedition
The course ends with the Final Expedition, during which the crew heads back into the field to put all of their newly acquired skills into practice. Depending on the team’s ability levels, instructors step back during this section and allow the crew to take over decision-making responsibilities for navigation, time schedules, communication and general leadership.
Course Area
This is the land of the midnight sun, where days are long and sunsets last hours. This course takes place in the Chugach Mountains, which sweep along the Alaskan coast south of Anchorage. Everywhere in the Chugach one sees the telltale signs: whether its ice and snow high on a pass or a U-shaped valley full of loose gravel till drained by a braided stream, it’s obvious that this is glacier country. Thick brush and trees fill the lower valleys, clouds hover over everything, and the mist and rain are often present for days on end. Those who brave the rugged environment will be rewarded with pristine wilderness, world-class views and, if they’re lucky, sightings of moose or bears.
