What's this trip about?

Seeking out the plentiful wildlife that Tanzania is renowned for is the main focus of this safari, and you’ll visit all four of northern Tanzania’s most popular parks to do so. From the little visited Tarangire to the small, beautiful, Lake Manyara National Park and from the vast plains of the Serengeti to the various habitats within the unique Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding conservation area, expect to see herds of gazelle and wildebeest, elephants with some of the largest tusks in Africa and numerous prides of lion. These natural spectacles are enhanced by insightful introductions to local tribes and their traditional cultures, all so different from our own. Stay in luxurious tented camps and well-situated lodges throughout this excellent safari led by a knowledgeable guide. Please Note: The luxury tented camp used whilst staying in the Serengeti is seasonal, and close during Tanzania’s rainy season (April to May and from November to mid-December). For safari departures during these dates comparable alternative accommodation will be used. Speak to us for details on which lodge will replace this tented camp.

View Profile

Wild about Africa is a tour operator which specialises in a broad range of innovative and affordable small-group safari adventures without compromising on quality. We are based in the UK, although our travellers come from around the world.

Wild about Africa's background

Our parent company, Sunvil Holidays, has been a tour operator since 1970, having operated for several years before then as Cyprus Property Tours.

Wild about Africa is the sister company to Expert Africa which began in 1991, with one of the first programmes to Namibia of any UK tour operator. Expert Africa specialises in high-quality tailor-made safaris to southern Africa. A decision was made to branch out into small-group trips and so in 2003 Wild about Africa was born. Wild about Africa remains backed by the wealth experience offered by Expert Africa and a proud part of the Sunvil family of travel companies - which is one of the UK's few owner-run, independent tour operators. Every one of our team has lived, worked or travelled extensively in Africa and all have grown to love it.

With this change of name, our management, team and everything else remained the same; we remain a proud part of the Sunvil family of travel companies - which is one of the UK's few owner-run, independent tour operators.

Adventure styles

A safari to Africa should be about more than just the 'big five' animals and well-known sites. It should also be about the discovery of off-beat and remote areas, seeking out smaller creatures and interacting with different cultures. Wild about Africa aims to offer the widest choice of safaris possible, taking in not just famous sites and places but also the less explored but equally fascinating destinations.

We offer a broad selection of small-group safaris. Adventures designed to suite a range of individual styles and budgets. So whether you are a safari enthusiast or a first time visitor to Africa, a single traveler or part of a group of family or friends, there will be a safari to suit you here.

Camping Safaris: Simple camping safaris to Africa are a great way to maximise time outdoors at a very reasonable cost. Each camping safari to Africa is led by a professional guide and is usually accompanied by an assistant who takes care of most camp chores. Camping equipment including easy-to-erect tents, comfortable foam mattresses and bedding is supplied and the safari to Africa includes three meals on most days.

Comfortable Camping: Comfortable camping safaris offer a very easy way to enjoy the full Africa experience, whilst retaining a real hint of adventure. You'll stay in comfortable mobile camps set up for you by camp staff, sleeping in comfortable bedding on camp beds set up in spacious walk-in tents. Each safari is led by an excellent guide.

Lodge and Camp Safaris: Lodge and Camp Safaris have all the advantages of a guided safari tour to Africa, but without the basic camping. You'll stay in luxury lodges, smart safari camps and comfortable mobile camps whilst you explore the landscapes and discover interesting flora and fauna with a knowledgeable guide.

Lodge Safaris: For the advantages of guided safaris, but without the camping, consider one of our lodge safaris to Africa. You'll stay in en suite rooms and tents at small guest farms, lodges and safari camps. You'll be led by a professional guide who will tell you a lot about the country and what you see as you travel.

Luxury Camping Safaris: Our luxury camping safaris to Africa incorporate many of the comforts found in smart lodges. These luxury safaris are led by excellent wildlife guides, and offer a great way to enjoy the full Africa safari camping experience, whilst retaining a hint of adventure.

Private Guided Safaris: A private guided safari to Africa is an exclusive lodge or camping holiday guided by an expert guide with the flexibility to set your own style of adventure, your own timetable and your own choice of daily wildlife activities. Private guided safaris are a great option for families, couples and small groups.

Meals Included

Meals

Breakfast on the Classic Tanzania Safari usually consists of fresh fruit, cereals, toast or fresh bread and the option of a  cooked breakfast with eggs of your choice. Tea and coffee and fruit juice are also on offer. Whilst travelling from one park to another, or when you are out on a full day’s safari, you’ll usually stop at a picnic spot to have a packed lunch. On other days you’ll return to your camp or lodge for lunch. The meal might then include a light starter such as soup, a mains choice of fresh salads, cold pasta dishes, cold meats and a bread selection, followed by a light dessert. Dinner is  usually a three-course meal too and will often be served as a buffet or offer a choice of mains dishes.

Drinks

Drinking water, tea and coffee are included whilst in the safari vehicle and at most of the lodges and tented safari camps. All other drinks are an additional cost to be settled directly with each individual accommodation. The best currency for this is US dollars cash and we recommend you carry notes in small denominations, as many of the lodges won’t always have large amounts of change. In addition, you will need to use new US dollar notes printed after the year 2000. Old notes printed before this date are often refused by the banks in Tanzania, so lodges will not accept them.
