Day 1 Arrive Munich

Located on the Isar River and to the north of the Bavarian Alps, Munich is the third largest city in Germany and capital of Bavaria. Home to the Oktoberfest, the historic centre is filled with buildings of interest. We recommend you take a walk around town and perhaps...

Day 2 Cycle the Isar cycle path to Bad Tölz (60km/37mi)

The Isar cycle path takes you through green forests, via Wolfratshausen and Geretsried, to Bad Tölz. The town, located at the crossroads of two trade routes - the River Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu - quickly became a thriving trading centre. ...

Day 3 Visit Lake Tegernsee and continue to Lake Schliersee (35km/21.5mi)

Today's cycle leads through the scenic landscape of Lake Tegernsee, over gently rolling hills, to Lake Tegernsee. In Gmund you will be able to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the lake. We recommend taking a boat trip or going for a swim! Later, you will continue on the Bodensee-Königssee bike path to Lake Schliersee. Overnight Lake Schlierse.

Day 4 Cycle rolling hills en route to Bad Feilnbach (35-50km/21.5-31mi)

Initially the cycle route follows the lake shore and slightly hilly roads to Bad Feilnbach. Because of the mild climate and more than 30,000 fruit trees, the moor spa area is also called the “Bavarian Merano”. Your destination is a colourfully decorated town. Overnight Bad Feilnbach.

Day 5 Visit the ship building town of Neubeuern en route to Lake Chiemsee (30-45km/21.5-28mi)

Today you cycle through the largest peat mining area of Bavaria, the Kollerfilze, and soon you will reach Neubeuern. All over the town, you will see two crossed ship hooks, the emblem of Neubeuern and a sign of the shipbuilding industry, which once was the residents’ ...

Day 6 Cycle along the River Traun to Inzell (50km/31mi)

The mountains are getting higher however the bike path stays almost flat. You will cycle through the “Bergener Moos” at the foot of Mount Hochfelln (1,674 metres), via Bad Adelholzen (healing spring), to Siegsdorf (natural history museum). From there, the path continu...

Day 7 A scenic route through mountains and across the border to Salzburg (55km/34mi)

Today’s stage follows narrow paths between the mountains, along the German Alpine Road via Schneitzlreuth and along the river Saalach to Bad Reichenhall (saline building, cathedral St Zeno, spa park). Cross the border between Bavaria and Austria to Salzburg. Overnight Salzburg.

Requirements
The trip is graded moderate. The recommended route involves a total distance of 300kms, with daily distances of between 30 and 60km/21.5 and 37mi on paved roads. In general, the terrain ranges from easy to hilly. Especially the stages from Bad Tölz to Bad Feilenbach, there are some ascents. You will find yourself partly on bicycle paths, and mostly on service roads and minor roads. Only some short sections have to be cycled on roads with more traffic. We recommend pre trip training involving cycling on light to medium traffic roads to ensure you are comfortable cycling through towns. Helmet (not available for rent - please bring your own well fitted helmet), wet weather gear and optional but recommended - padded shorts, gel seat.,
Travel Insurance
We require that you take out a personal travel insurance policy to cover against sickness, accident, loss of baggage, unexpected alterations to travel arrangements and travel disruption, emergency evacuation, cancellations, etc. A suggested policy is enclosed with these notes. If you take out an alternative policy, we need to be advised of the details. Please note: if you choose credit card cover, in our experience, this may not insure against high cost needs. For example; helicopter emergency evacuation. If you do decide to choose credit card coverage, please check all policy details thoroughly. You should always carry your travel insurance policy, emergency card and photocopies of your passport and cash cards with you during your trip.
Visa requirements
Visas not required for citizens of Australia, Canada, USA and New Zealand for up to 90 days in a period of 180 days for all Schengen countries (see www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-visa-countries-list/ for countries part of the Schengen). Please ensure your passport is stamped on arrival in the Schengen area. For all other nationalities and for longer stays in countries covered by the Schengen Agreement (Australian New Zealand, Canadian and US passport holders), please contact the relevant embassy. Stays of longer than 90 days in the Schengen area require a long stay visa for the country you are spending most time in. However long stay visas are unlikely to be issued unless there is a valid reason (eg. studying in country). Unfortunately we cannot assist in obtaining visas for long stays due to individual country visa requirements.
