Visits

Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss, Jokulsarlon

Highlights

  • On this trip we are travelling in our own private minibus as this allows us to reach some more off the beaten path destinations and gives us flexibility which would not be possible by public transport. And on top of that all our vehicles in Iceland have complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • There's a lot more to Iceland than ice and vikings. Follow the scenic 'Golden Circle', visiting geothermal springs and geysers, the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss and the site of the nation's first parliament at Thingvellir
  • Drive along the island’s spectacular South Shore past the Reynisdrangar Rocks and volcanic black sand beaches
  • Head to Skaftafell National Park and get adventurous with a hike to Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier
  • The aurora borealis is the best lightshow on Earth, and this trip is your ticket. Stay up late to see the northern sky dance with green light (subject to weather conditions and activity)

What travelers are saying

"I've travelled with Intrepid in Vietnam, Morocco, Nepal and Egypt and had a brilliant time every time. The experience is better than most tours as you are in a small group that goes a bit more 'off the beaten track', and you don't get taken to endless shopping opportunites (i.e. a cousin's carpet shop). They also have higher ethics than most travel companies, they contribute to local charities and they avoid animal use (donkeys etc) where possible. The tour leaders we have had have all been wonderful, knowledgable and relaxed, with good english."

What travelers are saying

"Staff and crew were wonderful! The food on board was excellent as was the service! The destinations Orkney, Shetland, the Faroes, etc. were all that was promised and the views and the wildlife were breathtaking! I will say that the key word for this entire experience is "expedition." Itineraries can and do change based on many factors, especially the weather. You will be getting into and out of Zodiacs for many of the stops and being in "reasonably good condition" is a good idea as hiking is an integral part of getting to prime locations. So, be flexible and have an explorer's heart and you won't be disappointed! Bottom line....... I would do it again!"

What travelers are saying

"Did the Jordan Essential Tour, it was absolutely amazing. This was my first Group Travel Tour and I loved it. I was worried about being the oldest one on the tour (I’m 34), but it was a good mix of ages. It was incredible to travel with people of different nationalities. Our Tour guide Issa was great. At all times he was really helpful. Taught us a lot about Jordanien history and culture. The tour was a great mix of everything...sightseeing, exploring, chillin and partying."

Northern Lights Tour Selection Trips

  • The Northern Lights operate on their own timetable, dependent on atmospheric conditions. You’re never guaranteed an appearance at any given time, but you can maximize your chances.
  • The best opportunities to witness the lights are when the skies are clear and dark in the fall through spring. Summer skies are too bright for viewing, and cloudy, snowy skies can prevent viewing.
  • While September-October and March-April may bring more chances to see the lights, they tend to be at their brightest in winter darkness.
  • The Northern Lights are most commonly witnessed on or above the Arctic Circle – approximately 66 degrees latitude – but occasionally dip much lower, into U.S. states such as Michigan and Maine or, in Europe, into Scotland, England or even northern France.
  • You can increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights by traveling to places where they are most common – such as the region around Fairbanks, Alaska; Whitehorse, Canada; or Abisko National Park, Sweden.
  • For the darkest skies, avoid scheduling your aurora borealis tour for days when the moon is full and bright (the new moon is ideal) and be sure to get out into the countryside away from city lights. Peak viewing time is generally around midnight.
