Tour Operator
Our Africa trips are a lot of fun! The style of travel is group camping. Everyone participates in all the daily routines and some great friendships can develop over the life of a tour as everyone works together quite closely to ensure all stays organised. We keep busy, the day to day routines being centred around setting up camp including pitching tents and taking turns in cooking and shopping, packing away, fire lighting and cleaning. Being based around a group effort you will find the more you put in to your trip, the more you will get out of your time in Africa on an overland truck tour. Those travelling with you are usually like minded people and equally committed to chipping in to get the most out of their trip.
Whilst we put as many special features on the overland trucks as we can to make them as comfy as possible, it is important to realise you are living "off the truck" "on the road" so you do need to be prepared for this. Day to day there can be some long, dusty drive days and facilities at campsites can vary. Whilst we have a large fridge on the trucks and additional cool boxes as well to keep food fresh and drinks cold, the variety and quality of food available is not always the same as is available in the western world either.

If I book on a gorilla safari will I see the Gorillas ?
Absolute Africa pre-purchases gorilla permits for our gorilla safaris.
If booking on a gorilla safari you will be billed for your permit ahead of time. Once you have a permit it is 99.99% certain you will view the gorillas whilst there can never be 100% guarantees as the gorillas are wild animals and the trek is in their natural habitat. The trek to the gorillas can take from 3 to 7 hours depending on where the gorillas are. The total time you spend with them is no more than 1 hour so the gorillas are not stressed by your presence and to minimise any risk of the transmission of disease as they are so genetically close to humans. If you have any transmittable ailment that could infect the gorillas like the flu you are also not allowed to trek.
I need to get visas prior to going
Most visas are easily obtained while on safari payable on the borders in USD cash so it is not necessary to get them prior to your trip. This advice applies to most passports including Australians, New Zealanders, British and most European passport holders.
Visa costs can be found in the budget section for each individual tour. Feel free to check with our office if you are unsure about the visa requirements for your particular passport.
Take a look at our overland adventure travel insurance!

Insurance:
We believe that your safety and enjoyment when travelling overseas with us is very important which is why we recommend arranging cover with specialist insurance brokers Campbell Irvine Direct. Campbell Irvine have over 35years experience in adventure travel insurance.
It is a condition of booking that you have travel insurance in place to cover your entire trip. You are responsible to ensure your policy is adequate for your travel plans even if we have seen your policy.
Not all insurance policies are the same. When travelling overland in Africa you want to be sure you have appropriate cover given the adventurous nature of what you are doing.
Make sure you have adequate accident and medical cover including cover for repatriation home in the event you became ill and couldn't continue, and also that all the adventure activities you may want to do are covered. If you need cover for one way travel do also check the policy does cover this when obtaining a quote.
Activities like safari walks, white water rafting on grade 5 rapids, bungee jumping, horse riding and trekking Kilimanjaro are not necessarily covered by all policies - so check out the small print carefully.
The cover includes:
