Eco-friendly

Belmond Mount Nelson: on-site worm farm (awarded the ‘Best Single Resource Management System) which turns organic matter into compost which is used to fertilise the hotel’s gardens, spring water used to irrigate the gardens, recycles plastic; glass; paper; tin; lawn clippings, batteries, fused light bulbs and cardboard, plants indigenous trees, uses environmentally friendly cleaning products, energy-saving bulbs, conservation of natural resources, cooking oil sent to a recycling facility, herbs sourced from a local organic farm, buys organic vegetables from township community farmers, supports local schools, energy-saving heat pumps for the bedrooms, sustainable merchandising, several water-saving initiatives and supports various social and cultural initiatives. Also training programmes and skills development programmes. When it renovated its entrance, it turned the wooden panels into artwork and school desks.

Camp Jabulani: lodge design is eco-friendly including the staff quarters constructed from recycled materials, conducts elephant research, elephant conservation, lots of sustainable tourism initiatives including Bana Grass project (elephant grass growing), Elephant Dung eco-projects (dung collected and placed in erosion trenches), water conservation (water treatment facility), recycling (waste management) and wildlife conservation working with the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre. Tongabezi Lodge: vegetable garden which is organic, and meals are prepared daily with fresh ingredients from the garden, wood suppliers from sustainable forests. In house bottling system which saves 20 000 plastic water bottles and 2 000 tin cans per year. Water treatment consultants that have designed and custom made a purification plant for recycling water. Community projects including a local school and village where environmentally friendly practices are promoted too. 

Child-friendly:

Belmond Mount Nelson: kid’s welcome snacks and selection of treats on arrival in room, has a children’s centre and child friendly activities are offered. Kiddies themed bathroom amenities,coloring books, complimentary kiddie’s DVD’s at reception to watch in the comfort of your room, complimentary child-minding service in the kid’s club area and babysitting at an additional cost.

Tongabezi: ideal African family getaway. Dedicated children’s menu, trained staff to participate in children’s activities including African treasure hunt, board games, game drives tailor made per family, fishing challenges, tracking in and around the Tongabezi grounds.

Camp Jabulani: all about family and children welcome in the Villa which has can take up to 3 children sharing with 2 adults. There is a Children’s Programme called Team Tusker for children 6 years and older to keep the children entertained including bush cooking and baking, orienteering, making your own African animal t-shirt, animal conservation initiatives, making paper out of recycled elephant dung, star-naming and spoor casting.
